Pirates Jump on Slumdog Millionaire
Written by Ernesto on March 02, 2009With eight Oscars, including Best Motion Picture, Slumdog Millionaire was the absolute winner of last week’s Academy Awards show. As was to be expected, Hollywood’s praise bumped up the download numbers of the film on BitTorrent. Hundreds and thousands of people have downloaded the film this week.
This week there are only three newcomers in our BitTorrent download chart, including the Oscar winners Milk and Slumdog Millionaire.
Although the DVD Screener of Slumdog Millionaire has been available since December last year, it never made it into our weekly top 10 up until now. According to our estimates the film was downloaded close to a million times after it won the awards last Sunday.
The data for our weekly download chart is collected by TorrentFreak, and is for informational and educational reference only. Currently both DVDrips, DVD Screeners, BDrips and R5 rips are counted.

Sad state of affairs… only one decent title in the Top 10 (and it sure isn’t Slumdog Millionaire)
What can I say, I downloaded the movie months ago. Given it was set to be released as a direct-to-DVD movie when Warner Indi ditched it I wasn’t surprised to see it online. Then again, I wanted to buy the movie a few days ago as a DVD but it will be released in May … two more months to wait. That’s exactly why they are losing money. I can get it illegally rightaway and they complain but won’t sell me the movie any other way …
ya know i find myself getting a tb hd and getting a load a older stuff and now that i have it , i really am not downloading much if at all.
They really don’t have much to offer anymore, and forget music i don’t think i’ve downloaded any music in years.

its pretty bad when you can’t even give somehting away. And then they want to charge you for it.
I agree with the others here, those movies were not worth downloading nor watching. I did watch atleast 15 minutes of each one, and most of them got turned off and deleted almost immediately.

I had to look twice when I saw the article’s title. For a moment I thought it was about a bunch of pirates beating up some millionaire celebrity or something. lol
Anyhow, it’s not suprising to see popularity rise when a movie wins an Academy Award. It just makes those who haven’t seen the movie more curious as to how good it is.
The 2 children above went back to live in a broken home with no money. That should be a reason not to buy this movie.

Slumdog is the worst BP winner since Crash, at least it wasn’t that bad.
I don’t get how slumdog won anything it’s like a floater that just won’t go down the toilet…

actually i did watch it all and it did suck, and like a i said IT WAS NOT WORTH THE MONEY I PAID FOR THE BANDWIDTH MONTHLY DIVIDED by THE TIME TO DOWNLOAD IT.
and like i said fewer and they wont have to worry about any downloading LOL , they are doing it to themselves, how can you just ify all these prices when the product is meant for people over the age of 60 who will be dead and buried ANY TIME.
They bit themselves in the foot with lawsuits.
No one wants to work for them OR fewer and fewer each go around and they know its not art and its money money and the proof is in the quality.

It was an excellent movie. There’s more to it than what appears at first glance.

Well… I have to say the film is average and am wondering myself why it did win anything… The average side of it is that I am sort of interested in Hindu culture and thereof enjoyed watching it. But come on… an award for that?

Slumdog Millionaire is a crappy movie. Its as bad as “No Country for Old Men”. It seems the Oscar folks are giving oscars to crappy movies on purpose.
Those who like movies like Slumdog Millionaire and No Country for Old Men have very bad taste.

Where is The Wrestler? Come on…. the only movie good enough to make any person lose their composure and cry dammit.
The physical transformation from Barfly to The Wrestler for Mickey Rourke is just unbelievable.

i haven’t seen slumdog but i think i will, i haven’t been very enthusiastic to watch it because even with it available to download free the advert have looked shit…

Is it a mere coincidence or my imagination, that the people who are saying that Slumdog Millionaire is a boring Movie are the ones who have watched the movie after it has won the Oscars??

I’ve had it for a while, but haven’t watched it. Mainly cause of the soundtrack. MIA makes me want to blow my brains out i hate her so much.

Downloaded and watched it based on the link here (fast download btw with thousands of seeders).
Not the best movie I have seen, somewhat hollywoodesque, with an even greater suspense buildup against the end than normal, but still nothing very unexpected. The message is about enduring a lot of abuse passively and then becoming rich and happy quickly because of it, so seems to propagate a typical religious western worldview. Somewhat brutal occasionally, I’m curious about how much reality base the various events have.
The Indian culture and anecdotes shown is its major saving grace, making it watchable. The acting wasn’t too bad also, and the main characters relatively likeable.
Overall I give it a “watch if somewhat interested in Indian culture and you have a few hours to fill”.
Why don’t all you people bashing the movie give an example of something that you think is good?

The ending was kind of a hmm moment with the chick.. you know it was about the “stuff”.

Just saw this movie on DVD at a party. Seems like copies of the “screeners” are quite easy to find. Screw you MPAA, that’s one movie ticket lost! If you look hard enough you can buy one easily. (Downloading it is cheaper and easier)Movie was good. Best part of it is actress Freida Pinto (Lakita). She is one hot and sexy babe.
