There would be a big fight if the entertainment industry tried any action against people’s rights to encrypt their data.

And this fight would be where? we’re already having the same things done to us all now, what difference would there be to what’s happened in the past people are un-happy about? what would be different other than people complaining about it just the same.

I would think that all countries have regulations they impose, however some probably regulate via the transfer of bundles of large unmarked bills during off-business hours. (damn, that sure as hell was a long winded way of saying "but some may take bribes")

There would be a big fight if the entertainment industry tried any action against people’s rights to encrypt their data. People have a reasonable expectation to privacy. The US Supreme Court has said for years that there is a right to privacy implied in the US Constitution. The US government is also suffering a backlash against its monitoring of private communication and data after it was clearly shown that they did not use their monitoring for only national security reasons like they said but abused it so that NSA workers could spy on their former girlfriends and the like. It is unlikely that any US legislation against encryption would pass in light of this.

But couldn’t the industry claim their using the encryption techniques on purpose to in-directly help to infringe on rights?

They could say they have done this on purpose knowing full well how to evade DMCA take down notices and such.

It’s all just a complete mess.
