Assuming the IP in question is 96.45.82.132, that is owned by Tiggee LLC based in Reston, VA, USA. A quick look at the website lists DNS Made Easy as one of their subisidiaries, and a reverse DNS lists the IP’s rDNS as http-redirection-c.dnsmadeeasy.com.

A quick look at DNS Made Easy’s website lists a number of companies using their service including DuckDuckGo, jQuery, Sega, Slingbox, Sony Music, Hard Rock, and Inbox.com.

Blocking that IP address had an effect that was foreseeable, because I just found all this out in 10 minutes of searching. In this case, the IP could be linked to a company because the data in the WHOIS database for the IP lists a company whose website lists a subsidiary that looks similar to the rDNS of the IP.

Also, it is a FCrDNS because 96.45.82.132 = http-redirection-c.dnsmadeeasy.com and http-redirection-c.dnsmadeeasy.com = 96.45.82.132

So, in this case, the link is pretty obvious and Premier League fucked up because they didn’t do simple checking. Most cases aren’t so simple though (my IP addresses don’t list me as the “owner”, they list my providers), but one would imagine that if the legislation and court procedures were logical then the lawyers would be required to state they have done the simple checking.

Premier League are concerned ISPs are ignoring a court order? I, personally, think the lawyers for Premier League that worked on the case should be banned from all court cases in the UK indefinitely because they are clearly incompetent.
