the greatest thing that could happen after a tragedy is if we can take a hard look at what happened and WHY.. simply writing off the incident as a deed by an evil person and grabbing pitch forks solves nothing.. hence the reason why these things continue to be an ongoing problem in the USA. So i have no objection to peoples opinions whether they agree with me or not. Everyone's opinion matters to me not just Americans. I don't think i know everything but i have an alternative position on things coming from Canada and having traveled across the states a couple times. Let me point out we have not spent years on the "Yellow" ongoing terrorist threat level for some reason Canadians do not have a need for such a system, i wonder why that is ?

What bothers me the most is the knee jerk reactions from Americans posting online, its crystal clear to me they are 100% oblivious to what goes on.. Look at this topic for your stereo typical "American" response..

http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1147198-explosion-at-boston-marathon-nsfw-images/

It shows outrage but what about the flip side of the coin ? American made bullets and bombs are big business.. I'll go back to the first thing i said.. Americans create the monsters they bitch about and people such as Saddam Husein were funded and aided to get where they are / were and so was Osama Bin Laden when he was fighting Russians out of Afghanistan there was plenty of support and aid coming from the USA. America did everything short of going down there and pulling the trigger for them.. And I'm sorry but Ignorance is no excuse.. at some point you need to take responsibility for your government romping around the world attacking countries as they see fit for any reason that can be cooked up such as Weapon's of mass destruction in Iraq.

If you don't learn from history you will repeat it.. so there will be many more American tragedy I'm sure and since its white people being killed its news, if some innocent Iraq's get killed do we think there will be even a fraction of the media exposure ? Of course not.

I am a white guy REALLY white lol
I don't believe in or agree with Terrorists or there religious crap, they seems like crazy nut cases to me, BUT i don't like seeing innocent people being killed regardless of their skin color or what country they are from or their religion etc. So i am the furthest thing from a terrorist supporter and i am in now ay religious but my heart goes out the the victims of this Boston tragedy but in order for it not to be in vain i think we need to learn something from tragedy like this. But we won't because of the American propaganda spin.. when 911 happened did anyone mention and of the stuff listed at Wikipedia that stretches back to 1991 ? Of course not it was a situation where the bully got his ass kicked and tried to pretend he never did anything.. when he did and lots for a decade plus..
And Wikipedia maybe not be great but much of the info is common knowledge and my point is made in the movie "Zero Dark 30" you all notice how the pre 911 stuff was completely ignored except for about 1 or 2 verbal lines in the movie.. the picture that was painted is we were minding our own business and then 911 happened and nothing could be further from the truth.. carefully crafted American propaganda film. When you go out of your way to leave out information it can be essentially lying for all intensive purposes.

On topic ? i think so.. the USA is NOT the world police..

One issue you conveniently avoid is the effort it takes to obtain information.

I didn't left that out. I clearly mentioned lowering the costs of production in my reply.
You once again show your sub-par comprehension skills

If a scientist performs experiments or an explorer ventures out to make discoveries, all that costs time and money.

I Guess you also missed my examples regarding FOSS, Kahn Academy, and publicly available papers.

Something has to pay for that information and that's why it has to be controlled

Yet if the business model no longer proves viable, maybe it's a time to change and adapt to the current times.

I guess you also missed the part regarding the free market.

sold in copies for the betterment of mankind

Free access and distribution of information does much more for the better of mankind than privately owned and monetised information.

Again public schools, libraries and papers are an excellent example of this, and the internet by itself completely overshadows parts of these.

Piracy takes away the profit incentive, and without profit less and less people will be driven to discover or create anything and try harder

Stop spreading misinformation. That is just not true. Look at the whole FOSS available currently. Clearly profit isn't the incentive to create and discover.

And if it is, there are ways to profit now, different than before, that are more adapted to current day mentality.

Remember you change for the customer, you don't change the customer.

until all this free information pirates want to spread ceases to exist or becomes nothing worth sharing in the first place.

You've said the same bullshit before.

Information won't disappear because of piracy.

The worst case scenario is it will stagnate.

However, that is clearly not the trend but the exact opposite.

It will be great irony if the dream of file-sharing getting legalized
ever succeeds, but by then everyone is sitting with empty torrent
clients with no information to share.

It's more of an inevitability than irony. And your fearmongering of empty torrents is just that, irrational fear caused by misinformation and lack of understanding.
