Release groups got busted
Written by Ernesto on January 26, 2006Some big players in “the scene” have been eliminated yesterday during a big raid coordinated by a German anti-piracy federation (GVU). The raids took place in Germany, Holland, Poland, Austria and the Czech Republic.
Over 300 homes were raided and 30 individuals were arrested. The GVU confiscated more than 20 servers that were (according to the GVU) used to spread pirated movies, games and software.
As soon as the raids begun rumors started to spread around the internet. Release groups tried to warn eachother and the leader of the RELOADED group was reported to be arrested. The GVU released a press release (german) stating that the folowing groups were taken down: Unreality, DRAGON, Laboratory, Heaven, code talk, GTR, ECP, TRCD, AOS, MRM, SITH, GWL, Cine VCD, AHE, Cinemaniacs, dump station and IOH.
These raids will definately have a strong impact on the availability of pirated material in the next months. However, release groups are flexible, they will probably back down for a while and reorganize their infrastructure but they will be back or replaced within notime.

Some ppl come to tha place where I work to have thier MS OS’s repaired - most times need to do a repair reload, when U ask for their Original CD they dont have a genuine one SO what do we do? RePORT them to the authorities only so MS can put em in Gaol not likely the punishment is Big Fines so who get’s the money? (GOV or MS or Lawyers for MS) So let’s say I be a good person and Dob em in We don’t get the Job and don’t get paid, whereby my Boss makes no money and we all go broke and end up begging the GOV for help whereby we get told go get a job - I say hey F%^K I did my Job right according to the authorities that’s why me no work no more. NOW I too can not afford to BUY genuine I find a pices of Sh&t PC in the bin save me money get Internet Access and Download You KNow What! for freee why? Cause I want to learn the product and how to service it so I can keep up with the other Guy’s in order to get a Job…. goes on for years struggling an stuff.. One day after too much honesty and effort I get a Job fixing Puters - They Guy’s freind who got busted comes in to get PC and OS fixed. NOW I need his disk and it is not genuine What do I do? a) fix it and shut up b) dob they guy in c) quit my Job? mmmm Wife needs food, here’s what I do F^%K MS fix the job, read the resume from my Previous Boss (F65k) him he never paid me much anyway, Get the money give it to my bOSS Get my pay go home eat and F43K my wife. what if everyone did that? everyone in the world decided to put all their money on a shared bank account. you put all the money you earn into the one account - everyone does. and you take what you need. Realisticly there would be more than enough for everyone. no one would need to starve ever again. There would be no rich no poor! but we all know that in the real world it could never work cos we are all greedy bastards and you could be damn sure that everyone would take a lot more than they ever put in. just a thought.
This is going to be a long one. Something I wanted to say for a long time.
First I work for a big Software MNC (Multi National Corp.) and to me it seems that these software MNC’s mostly release software for each other and not for the common man (ironically computers started as a common man’s hobby). For example, Microsoft’s OS os most convenient for these MNC’s to purchase than for a kid on the street. If these people really want to beat piracy, the only way to go is to make the process of piracy more expensive than buying the software. That is the only way to ELIMINATE piracy. Any other way - No Joy ! There is some headway - with the release of Visual Studio Express Editions that are free - atleast for now.
The Linux (Open Source) front is not making enough waves with Free Software because even they gotta live. So they have ended up saying Open Source is not free. I agree that to live people gotta make money. But that does not mean make pople pay through their nose. “If you like it, you buy it” is a good thing if you are Mr. Money Bags.
But all this doesn’t mean Piracy is a good thing. It still is bad. But what do we do if there is no solution to it ? We cannot use our desktops as paper weights (Damn Expensive if you ask me). But till the time that the decision makers listen to the common man and make software affordable to them this will happen.
By the way - I am from India too. I agree that the West owes us nothing and we should make it ourselves; but we were not a “Piss poor third world nation”. Dude, we gave you the ZERO the other half of the binary language for your computers. So think first and get your facts straight before shooting your mouth off. This is a proverb that every Indian knows.
I like learning and if not p2p i would not be able to practice on software. P2p is good for publiciting software, but can we say the same when it comes to watching moovies and listening to music? He, he… By the way… They (the big fish) should start chargind the telefhone companies. Are not those the ones that profit with all the webpirates and tinipirateshitys like me? Where to even begain with all of this…i guess first off from what it seems most of you knocking the americans like we haven’t come up with shit…anyways piracy if going to stay free flowing information for all till the day we see our last computer..its just like hackers/phreakers same goes with all of this as the technology changes people find ways to bypass/get by/manipulate it for their own means. even if all the money in the world was spend on trying to eradicate piracy.. theres still going to be that one person or groups of that they won’t get…thats just the truth behind it all…this could go on and on but truth remains just like back in the days when us dos kiddies were encodeing cda’s…or trying to get into FaTE..whatever it maybe h/p/a/c/v if someone wants to get it out there it will be done and as for the people as long as people know how to accuire the information it’ll always be around….but i do agree if you like the program/software WHATEVER do your part and chip in for what its worth and within reason but…oh ya and whatever you do if your gonna RELEASE try not to keep the servers where you lay your head..thats whats telnet is for amongst other things ;)

The way I see it, software piracy benefits companies more than it damages them. Kids go out, download a $500 software package that neither they nor their parents could ever afford, and aren’t sure they’d even WANT to spend the money on if they had it. Then they get used to it, they learn it, live it, love it, and when they join a slave driver corporation someday, they will bring experience to the table, and recommend the company use that software. They’ll blow the corp away with their mad skill, and the corp will buy 1000 licenses. Tada, pay back.
I’ve actually done this, minus the 1000 licenses. I had a company buy 5 photoshop licenses tho which is a hell of a lot more than I’ve pirated the software. Ch-ching.
This is crazy! I was born in South America, raised there, in Europe and now I live in the US. I have traveled to India, Africa and China and have seen first hand a level of misery that MOST “1st Worlders” can only relate as a work of fiction. Yet, I am overweight, drive a nice car, got sattelite TV, broadband, a whole list of accessories. I KNOW my life is a dream to the majority of the world. If you hav a computer, download software (especially games) and can read this post, YOU should know your life is MUCH better thant the majority of the world.
Yet, with all my “wealth” I constantly wish I had more. I lock my house and my car and don’t leave my things lying around - even when I am in a dirt poor country where the sale of my [stolen] laptop or my [stolen] possessions could possible feed a whole family for months-.
I cannot presume to have insight into your souls. I know that downloading and not paying for it is wrong. But I also know that it is wrong in the sense that I am not paying for something that had a real cost to someone else.
These are the things that I know. Read into them what you will:
1 - The price of anything is directly related to the producer’s ability to sell it at that price, either by force (government taxation), by market pressures (consumers’ wallets) or trade manipulation (why can one NOT get a DELL, Compaq, etc computer without an OS?!) AND by a shitload of other factors I cannot even begin to comprehend.
2 - FREE

How funny! :) I mean, we all talk about sharing and yet we end up on real world politics and what fucking bastards we all are. I personally buy the stuff I like (CD’s, DVD’s, Games etc.) to support the product, so I MIGHT see another CD of the band or another movies of the same kind or another game by the same people etc. I don’t feel ashamed to say: I give a fuck about nationality, religion, language, color of skin etc. Why should I care? It’s about sharing data and being in the position to judge it. (And make the decision to say: Fuck! Great! I will buy that!) I totally agree, that it’s close to impossible for the most to buy stuff made by Adob or Corel or Macromedia etc. I can’t and if I can’t use the programms I can quit studying and just get a job as a trucker or whatever (doesn’t mean trucker is a bad job…) Well, getting back to the politics…srry, can’t leave it… a lot of americans (not all! Okay, but I fear what its approaching, Caruso. In the depression, when Okies, entire families pushed off their farms because of money, were roaming the orchards in California fighting over baskets of food to sell for a nickel. And the farm owners weren’t obligated then to give money to the poor, either. It never is a problem of those with money, since they don’t want to have to help if they don’t want to. So they don’t have to! And what — the U.S. government FORCES them to let a crop go for a year — hard earned freedoms down the drain. But what choice did we have? And in the beginning, government was supposed to be you and me working together. Doesn’t it always become this way?

I don`t understand why you guys are spending so much time with this chickens*it. We all got our opinion, somebody has found his one, someone made himself one…and only a hand full of a few poor suckers are just reading this lines without any thoughs.

I download only the best programs and not the shit ones, I don’t make any commercial profit from using them. No company loses money, because I would never buy cheap shit programs nor would I be able to afford overpriced decent software.
I download half-decent movies, because in this country the only movies that show at the cinema are bullshit stephen shitberg american box office lord of the fag family turd films. No company loses money because I don’t go to the cinemas and if I couldn’t download movies I wouldn’t buy or watch any anyway, its that simple.
I buy every big release game that comes out. And download all the shit games just to play them once then delete them.
Without downloadable music, I’d just survive off of free music releases anyway.

Why is it that kids like me can, or anyone else for that matter can be arrested here in America, put in prison, and fined up to $250,000 for downloading music, when we maybe downloaded $100 of music? Its nice to know that the American government takes rapists out of prison, and puts them in rehab for free, and release them in a few years when they f*ck up ppls lives forever. And because I downloaded some songs, I can go to jail and be fined becuase I screwed some multi-millionaire at a record company out of a hundred dollars. That guy probably wears a thousand dollar suit, owns a $1,000,000 house and a brand new mercedes and a brand new yacht. Like he needs that $100. Thats BS. And when I get fined $250,000, where does that money go? To George Bush so he can spend it on a pointless war? I didnt screw those ppl out of $250,000, and neither did any of you guys, so whats the need in the fine? I think it’s just stupid that they can do something this big to us for something we did that is so miniscule. Piracy isnt going to be stopped, but some ppl will be caught. And they will pay for all of us. Last time I checked it is illegal to download anything and sell it without permission. Why is sharing illegal? We’ve been learning to share since kindergarten, and now we get fined and arrested for it. I know its on a different level, but still, it makes sense in my world. I just think that sharing with ppl all around the world shouldnt be illegal. But as for those “newbs” who DL stuff, and sell it to make money, thats wrong. Sharing is not.
