Let's see if "catkiller" is willing to donate his/her work to his/her employer too. That is IF "catkiller" actually works for a living. Most likely he/she is just another basement dweller sucking off his/her parents and stealing whatever he/she can't suck.

BTW, my dying will not change the economics. Come up with a way artists can get the recognition they deserve for their work AND you can get that work for nothing. But, that would require WORK on your part instead of the instant gratification you are used to.
Paying $18.00 for a CD is wrong. Sure, the Artist deserves recognition, but the current business model is not supported by the majority of people in the World. Litigation, litigation and more litigation won't preserve a dying Dinosaur's outdated business model. Instead of embracing a new technology, supporting the people who made them rich, the public, the MPAA and RIAA has demonized and victimized the very public that made their fortune. Everyone is a criminal right? Sueing 12 year olds is OK? Right MF?

Great Article! Great to finally get some actual names. We have before us the net. Everyone who knows about the RIAA and MPAA loathes their underhanded business dealings. Let's let the people know who their congressional shill are, and with an election coming soon, this year is the people's year. I suggest a mass grassroots campaign targeting these shills. Anyone with a blog, who knows how to make a website, participates in Internet chat, plays MMOGs can participate.

Let's stick it to the man (and his shills!)

is it safe to assume though that you won't be posting any similar article taking groups like IPac to task for seeking to support campaigns for candidates that espouse more "liberal"/"enlightened" views with regard to intellectual property issues...

let's be totally straightforward about it shall we? the issue isn't that people are spending money, donating to campaigns in an effort to influence policy...the issue is that people who support policy that isn't in line with your own beliefs are doing so...

There's nothing difficult or complicated about it. Instead of charging your employer for your work, give it away. Now we both know that the record companies take most of the royalties and the singers get shit, but that's the way it's been forever. We also know it costs pennies to create a CD or DVD but the record companies charge 2000 times that and blame distribution and advertising costs. The fact is anyone can open their own record label in their basement. All you need is the money to create and copy your music to CDs and then distribute and advertise ..... oh wait ........... who has the money for THAT part?
As for royalties, theft is theft. Perhaps there are some groups and individuals who give it away but most want to make a living off of it. I suggest you try giving it away for awhile.
Last I checked, nobody charged me to come to this site... Advertising (be it through a free article on a website or a downloaded song) generates revenue. But anyway, "theft is theft" oversimplifies the situation.
