Mitch Bainwol of the RIAA was originally going to telephone each file sharer to give them their warning. He ran into a problem however. Seems he isn’t very understandable when his mouth is full and all that can be heard is the nut sack slapping his chin. :)

Those of us from the analog era know this isn’t stealing. Same as you tape a show, you download a show. Same as you give a copy of the tape to a friend, you .. .give a copy to a friend. Its NOT FOR PROFIT.It is not stealing. THEY are on the wrong side of the ethical equation. But they have lobbies and lawyers and they’ve actually convinced people that DVRing is somehow not stealing, but downloading the same, is and sending a copy of it to a friend is. Evil greedy corps. If they had their way libraries would never have been allowed for copyright infringement. Humming a tune would be a violation of copyright (hey! it was in the UK they told some old lady who stocked shelves to cease and desist). Consider burning DVDs of said tv programs, music, etc. and leaving them around as DMCA protest

Truecrypt is uncrackable as long as you know what you’re doing. Use a large enough keyfile, the right algorithms and you’re as safe as it gets.

The recording industry has been raping the public for over 50 years. A revolt such as file sharing is no different than what our forefathers did when this country was founded. England tried to enforce too much control over the original american settlements and the people stood up and said ENOUGH. The recording industry is way too greedy and needs to fire at least 60% of the over paid executives and drop their prices.

It’s so fascinatingly ironic that the very purported evil practice of piracy has stimulated the economy more so, and lined more pockets than if it didn’t exist.

The abovementioned companies such as DtecNet and BayTSP would not exist if it weren’t so. Then there are educational institutions spending between $350k to $500k? Who’s getting that money? Certainly not for the financial gain of the pirates.

Are the movie makers really losing out? Wasn’t the VCR with it’s recording capabilities meant to have threatened putting them out of business already? I doubt if the hundreds of millions of dollars would have been invested in the blockbuster films of late if that were true.

Are the video rental stores losing out? Oh wait – that was supposed to happen with the advent of cable and satellite TV with movies on demand… right? No, the only reason the little rental stores disappeared was because they were swallowed up by ever-increasing rental giants like BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO!

So it really is a win-win situation in disguise. The movie-makers continue to make blockbusters (with tears shed for additional sales they could have made), the profiteering pirates continue to make their money in the blackmarket, the DtecNets and BayTSPs continue to make money to allow the lawyers to continue making money from sending out infringement notices.

Then there are some who are making $350k-$500k per educational institution and the shareholders of these blockbuster movies feel somewhat protected that there is action being taken to prevent piracy and laws in place to stop such practices.

Life is wonderful and all is well.
