Something to consider, is that most countries on this dust ball have their own anti-piracy companies and organizations, regulations and laws.

Yes, American companies, legislators and anti-piracy outfits do try, too hard, to enforce their laws and regulations in other countries, but America isn’t the only country in the world that produces movies, music, software, books, etc.. Most big companies today are multinational corporations, and most countries have trade agreements with other countries.

Russia and the rest of the world do have their own movie, music and software industries that want their copyrights protected, so this isn’t all about protecting what Hollywood or Silicon Valley endlessly regurgitates. Personally, I could care less if my digital file acquisition and sharing activities are legal or illegal in the U.S.A. or any other country in the world, because if I want something, I will get it, or take it, period.

I fully understand people in other countries being pissed at Hollywood, but Hollywood is only one piece of this puzzle.

Russia and the West seem to be inching back towards Cold War postures anyway, so I don’t think that rasPutin or the Duma could care less about what Hollywood wants.

So the system they currently have has had little use and minor success, which they now want to expand for equally minor gains, which may include some added pure censorship. They should be careful labelling “pirate sites” often on MAFIAA fad when us here can prove that any site that allows user upload could be classed as a “pirate site”.
