In response to all those “Scene Elitists”, there is nothing wrong with P2P.. In many cases it has been the best form of free couriering available. In the BBS days I was a scene courier for TDT & Razor and I know full well what is good for the the Scene.

From this angle, a private tracker set up by the industry might be one way for the industry to make money. ;) Not so much a honey-pot, but rather, a “legal” honey-pot for making money.

At any rate, it seems that one kind of media-control (corporate copyright) is simply replaced by another kind (private tracker), which ostensibly defeats some of the point of the context of file-sharing.

I wonder how much time some of us need to go running around sniffing for invites. I’m unsure I do.

$200 is not enough for a tracker like ScT. You need to consider the $$ for axx, seedboxes, servers, etc.

I would love to be in a position like ScT were where they could pull in such huge amounts of donations. I mean, you could run a site like that on $200 a month and still have change left over after that, so with the amount of money that they were bringing in from donations they will be loaded.

And if you would like to dispute this and continue to say that a torrent tracker costs a lot of money to run, please give us a breakdown of costs as I’d love to see where $10k could go into running a torrent site. 2 servers at $100 each per month would be adequate hardware for running such an enterprise, and as for bandwidth, the tracker itself isn’t very bandwidth intensive at all, and most datacenres offer virtually unlimited data plans anyway at pretty low costs.
