True, but the copyright jerks would just claim they should be allowed to have things they don’t like destroyed with their whining. What needs to be done is make it seem like they can do it, but also make it seem it’s not worth it. With fees to start with and revocation of privileges and restoration of all the links they requested after a very strict number of mistakes, it could be turned in to way for them to waste their money like a bunch of major suckers.

If that is correct it’s yet one more solid indicator that the DMCA needs to be disemboweled and decimated.

Because what you say is that if anyone wants to publicly shame some other company, all that guy needs to do is send in a few hundred DMCA notices to google and claim it’s on behalf of [insert victim company's name here].

Given how the DMCA works, it might be possible to write an “Angry Kitten” troll engine exclusive for creating and sending false DMCA notices én másse.

I know some of the people at MyFreeCams / Cybertania, they never hired these guys. In fact, my contact there said this was a pirate that set up a fake site and ID to try and takedown his competitors. Apparently the bulk of the notices that DMCA Copyright Enforcement sent had to do with other cam show image / streaming sites.

For example..

Don’t like a site? Start uploading copyrighted files renamed to files on the site you hate and see what happens. It could be a movie, porn, music or anything and while it’s not something that’s being done often it could be once people figure out it’s a great way to attack someone you don’t like.

That is my problem with automated removal, it’s too goddamn easy for attackers to abuse. Especially when it comes to the small players that cannot even setup a proper regex filtering system or in most cases don’t even attempt.
