ShareTV Evolves Into a TV Torrent Community
Written by Ernesto on October 20, 2007In just a few months ShareTV has matured from a relatively basic TV-torrent site into a vibrant TV-torrent community where users can share, watch and discuss their favorite shows.
The popularity of TV-shows on BitTorrent is enormous series like “Heroes” and “Prison Break” are downloaded over a million times in any given week mainly because the networks are hesitant to make their content available online worldwide.
This is in part what drives the success of sites like ShareTV. “The flawed approach by which the networks do things. they really don’t make it easy to watch the TV-shows you want when you want.” Chris Richmond, the admin of shareTV told TorrentFreak.
The initial goal of ShareTV was to make it easy for a BitTorrent novice to download TV-shows. Chris said back in February that he wanted to make downloading TV shows as easy as possible. The focus of the site has shifted over time though, and it is much more than a regular TV-torrent site now. “I’m working on making ShareTV a large community for TV-Fans instead of a torrent site,” Chris tells us, “With enough people coming together we can influence the way the networks do things like what happened with Jericho.”
The new and improved ShareTV not only allows people to download torrents, people can also keep track of their favorite shows, give them a rating, vote for their favorite characters, edit show listings and much more. Right now, ShareTV has close to 90,000 members and around 28,000 visitors daily, but these numbers are likely to grow if TV-torrent remain as popular as they are now, and if Chris is not arrested like the admin of TV-links yesterday.

An interesting concept of a site. I’ve been looking for a place to chat about TV shows for a while this could be it. However, the site is UGLY! One of the worst designed torrent sites I’ve seen in a long while. Also the limiting point system is both annoying and a hindrance to participation.

Chris said back in February that he wanted to make downloading TV shows as easy as possible. He has. He planted the Acorn and now an Oak tree is Growing, Come and have a look.
Site owner of ShareTV should consider moving his ass and servers to Sweden before hosting torrents or get him some good copyright lawyers. He’s making himself a big legal target (whether warranted or not) if he hosts torrents. If you look at top 100 on TPB it is mostly movies, but some TV shows make the top 100: http://thepiratebay.org/top/all
The subject of this news article, ShareTV.org, should not be confused with the groundbreaking eDonkey hashlink site ShareTV.net, which was originally named BuckTV (”Bucky” was the site’s webmistress). ShareTV.net was once the internet’s premier TV show release site, but stopped functioning as a download site about three years ago, though the site itself remained online another several months as a kind of memorial to ShareTV’s heyday.
I don’t know what, if anything, the torrent site ShareTV.org has to do with the defunct ED2K site ShareTV.net, but I suspect that they’re nothing but imposters that stole the name.
TorrentFreak needs to make it clear that this is not the original ShareTV.
Great site indeed, i have been a member since first time torrentfreak mentions it.
Site is less convivial now with all new fonctions but still a good site to keep track of your favorites shows! (and the admin is a great fellow!)
R.I.P tv-links
You’ve served us well.
:)
sharetv rules!
Thanks a lot for another great article. I missed one of very few TV shows that I actually watch on a regular basis. And now I can see the episode! And I totally agree with the main point of the article. Why should I be forced to watch a program at a particular moment?
This site is rapidly becoming “the” place to come for current information on the bit torrent scene. Slyck just doesn’t cut it any longer. Keep up the good work.
So we flame the hell out of tioti and kiss sharetv’s hairy butt. Gotta love torrentfreak.
I THINK THAT IS GOOD

I most definitely disagree with the previous posting.
As a Moderator of shareTV.ORG. I can say with absolute certainty that the site is very easily navigable.
TV show info is easily obtained and a rolling update of your favorite shows airing dates makes viewing so simple.
The points system is there to protect the site from spammers and it does not take long to be a fully participating member if you are a genuine TV lover.
The site is made-up of extremely friendly people who aim is to enjoy TV.Shows and to help each other to this end.
Join us and give it a try.
