Sony Installs Rootkit In PS3 Update To Defeat Piracy

According to report, a developer called Mathieulh says that the official PS3 firmware v3.56 contains a rootkit which allows Sony to perform remote code execution when the machine is connected to the Playstation network.

Sony is no stranger to rootkits. In 2005, Sony BMG hid rootkits known as XCP and MediaMax on music CDs which automatically installed themselves on Windows computers when people listened to the music contained on them.
