Don´t really agree with ISPs gaining something from cooperation – yes, downstream would be spared and can so be oversold more, but why would anyone even want that much bandwidth if there´s nothing to do with it. Why on Earth would you need 10+ Mbit? Do you really download that often legal material that you need so much speed? Some dozen Linux ISOs, a handful of black and white movies whose copyright has expired, some HD videos meant to promote the medium… then what? YouTube & friends? 2-3Mbit is more than enough for those, all that extra that you´re paying for just sits there idly…
In other words: piracy drives the Net, wether ISPs accknowlede it or not all that access that they can sell is, atleast partially, made possible by pirates who want to get more and more stuff faster and faster.

I like to mix drum and bass. I have around 500 tracks and i still want alot more. If i payed for the records it have cost me 3000 Pounds.. Plus i wouldn’t know about all the less popular artist.

So if they manage destroy piracy, they destroy my hobby of mixing drum and bass to a certain extent at the same time..

ISP’s are doing something about it. Well, ours is at least. They have just imposed their “Fair Usage Policy” on us. We have no idea what the value is that they set for this but it must be coming down. They are now throttling our connection down to 25kbs. Been using them for years without problems.

Currently using eclipse internet in the UK. Anyone know of a better ISP in the UK with good track record? Were moving with MAC code in hand :-)

Me – I just prefer to get stuff (… that I don’t think is crap sometimes) for free rather than pay for it. I’ll keep doing it while I can.

I wonder if the fact that many of us don’t pay for anything we download beyond ISP costs means that (for some anyhow) the feeling of quality is reduced – many people will refuse to acknowledge something is bad if they have paid money for it (I mean: who likes feeling like an idiot after all). So perhaps on the flip side some people attribute less value to something that they obtained for nothing.

I buy a lot Chinese movies as I find it difficult to get decent rips with synchronised subtitles from most torrent sites, if I can find a chinese movie at all. I constantly have to sit through those annoying copyright notices, not just once but twice! Once in English and then again in Chinese!

Suck it up, Sony. Every day, in every way, we get stronger and stronger. Any businessman of even moderate intelligence would realize that if DRM, rootkits, lawsuits, and harassment are doing nothing but killing you quicker then maybe it’s time to reconsider your business model. But, no. This pinhead believes that a “kinder, gentler” form of DRM will save the Industry’s ass. To repeat what I said at the beginning…..

Don’t exist (even the moment) a real proof or serious scientific study that support this statement.

That if is true is that a lot of people don’t buy many of these products anymore because these are (in many cases) of bad quality and overpriced… even worse, with restrictions of fair use!! (as for example, DRM).

Particularly, I don’t buy any album since 1995… the main reason? the music is very bad, and the quality of the recordings is horrid as the hell; because these since 1995 are each time louder and louder, even the point that the album CDs get audio distortion, as consequence of the saturation on the recordings.

But before of that any anti-piracy idiot come here suggesting (without evidence, as always) that I don’t buy albums because of internet, let me to say that I am an internet user since 2002, and I said that I don’t buy any music album since 1995, by the reasons that I already explained.

This seems that some ignorant FUCKING IDIOT in the record music industry thought that this was “cool” to raise the volume of the recordings even the point of getting distortion and saturation, and after, others morons in the media industry thought that this was “cool” too, and decided to do the same with ALL the albums since around 1995.
