Speed up Bitcomet and uTorrent

Written by Ernesto on December 20, 2005

In a previous post we advised to raise the maximum amount of half-open tcp connections to speed up your torrents. On itself this is a great trick, however I recently discovered that 90% off all people use the default settings on their client, and that’s a problem.

Both Bitcomet and uTorrent (and probably other clients) limit half-open tcp connections by default. This means even if you hack the max half-open tcp connections in windows xp, your speed will still be limited. So this is what you need to do:

First of all, read this post that gives you some tips and tricks how to speed up your torrents

1. Hack the max half-open TCP connections

Update: this tweak is NOT recommended if you use uTorrent >1.7, it may lead to unstable behavior.

If you’re on XP sp2, your TCP connections are limited to a maximum of 10. This seriously hurts your downloading speed because it wont let you connect to a high amount of ip numbers. It is supposed to slow down viruses because their spreading strategy is to connect to a high amount of ip numbers, but it also cripples your torrent downloads.
A nice way to fix this is to download this patch, it allows you to set the maximum allowed connections to any number you want. Any number between 50 and 100 is ok (more is NOT always better).

2. Configure your torrent client to allow 50-100 max half-open TCP connections

uTorrent: Options > Preferences > Advanced options > net.max_halfopen

tcputorrent

Bitcomet: Options > Preferences > Connection > max half-open TCP

tcpbitcomet

Now you’re ready to go…

relakks privacy vpn anonymous internet

A third point of interest is that some “windows updates” revert your tweaked tcp connections back to 10. So it’s wise to check this every now and then. You can check this by going to (in windows xp) Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > System… Look for event 4226 (sort by event).

event

If there are a lot of daily occurrences it’s likely that the max amount of half-open tcp connections was set back to 10. Or you’re infected with some nasty spyware…

If you’re done, you might want to try the torrent settings optimizer to check if all setting are correct

increasing the half-open connections won’t necessarily speed up your torrents…..remember, in the world of bittorrent, more Connections does NOT equal faster speeds. If a peer has something you need, they will connect to you, and such.

And of course, use protection…lol

Before I took these steps I could only get around 30kbs download tops. Afterwards I have gotten a max of 305kbs. It all depends on the nuber of seeds and peers so i choose my torents wisely.

25 Feb 01, 2006 at 23:47 by wireracer

I have installed BitComet several times and succeeded in finding torrents, however I can’t get any of them to connect. I created exceptions in the firewall on my computer and still no luck. Any suggestions?

26 Feb 02, 2006 at 00:39 by jose cuervo

thanx a lot

27 Feb 02, 2006 at 03:15 by Sabbath

i donwloaded this patch, i have 54.0 mbp speed and i also use bit comet,i’ve changed my tcp connection to like 60 or somthing, and i’m only getting speed like 9 or 10 on average somtimes i get lucky and get 40 or 50 for minimal time. With the speed of my computer i should be getting much faster download speed?… any new advice

28 Feb 02, 2006 at 03:17 by Sabbath

why is my bittorrent not opening, thats the best site of all of them, did it shut down?

29 Feb 02, 2006 at 14:53 by BungleX

1. Dont worry about antivirus warnings, the’re expected.
2. You dont need the patch for 98 SE.
3. Patching doesnt garantee faster downloads, u still need lots of sources and upload aswell..
wireracer - if u have a nat router/modem u have to forward your ports.

30 Feb 03, 2006 at 03:58 by Sabbath

I’ve a DL-524 router, and even went to the d-link site through admin and changed up in application with port trigger, sent ports and nothin happened , this is getting ridicoulous…

31 Feb 04, 2006 at 17:32 by inhale.exhale

this is realy great!! first i only downloaded at 22kB/s and after the patch, i download at +/- 240 kB. So it’s really it

32 Feb 05, 2006 at 01:28 by DmnCash

I’ve tried this and still no improvement. I have XP2 SP2 and my net is ADLS 2MB. This means that my download is 2MB and my upload is 370-390kb/s (don’t know exact number). Can you please tell me what might the problem be ?

33 Feb 05, 2006 at 01:30 by DmnCash

By the way my country is Romania. It is in situated in Est Europe. Is the location a problem ?

34 Feb 05, 2006 at 01:56 by Ernesto

East Europe is just great for torrenting :) that’s not the problem. Don’t expect miracles though. Try a popular torrent with a good seed peer ratio, and check out this post http://torrentfreak.com/speed-up-your-torrents-ii/

hope that helps

35 Feb 05, 2006 at 20:05 by cra

will this make a difference if im already dwnloading at around 500kbp/s anyway??

36 Feb 06, 2006 at 06:58 by Jelle

When using BitComet, my browsing stops after a while, despite reducing down/up load speeds! I am part of a network, where sometimes download speeds of over 200 are reality. Any suggestions?

37 Feb 06, 2006 at 07:27 by Den

After installing this “patch” I noticed that my computer is trying to connect to random IP’s even if I have no programs running. There not the IP’s for windows time update and such. They are trying to connect to private IP’s… this patch is a virus I think?

43 Feb 06, 2006 at 17:16 by Chen

good!

44 Feb 06, 2006 at 19:58 by Ernesto

@ OpenSource

This patch just tweaks the tcpip.sys file and is absolutely NOT a virus

45 Feb 06, 2006 at 22:17 by Jake

i installed the patch, changed it to the max tcp stuff to 70. then i changed it on bitcomet to 80 like it said. i am still getting extremly low download rates!
50kb/s IF LUCKY!

51 Feb 07, 2006 at 01:25 by Ernesto

@mark

It depends on the torrent. Does it have a lot of seeds and peers?

52 Feb 07, 2006 at 22:38 by slafCO

Hi people, I instal the patch … there was some problems but I think not serious problems …. sommethink with Windows CD …. max tcp stuff to 80 .. and still 30 if I am LUCKY .. why ??

53 Feb 08, 2006 at 01:39 by Joe

AS soon as i put the patch in and REBOOTED, i got a WINDOWS UPDATE saying it found something that could let intruders in, and wants me to download it. I am guessing if i do it goes back to 10, right?. So what should i do?

54 Feb 08, 2006 at 01:49 by Joe

ALSO just check the EVENT LOG and i see ALOT of those you mentioned there, does this mean its back to 10?.

55 Feb 08, 2006 at 15:00 by Vlastik

I have 80 halfopen. Speed my net is 512/256 kb/s. And I upload 10 KB/s and download so 1 - 5 KB/s. And I am seeding always. With windows isnt problem. I have Service pack 1. So I dont know what´s this.

every time i try to dwnld something it says cant read torrent discouraging.

59 Feb 12, 2006 at 02:48 by CraigL

This will not increase your download speeds, In SP2 microsoft (who everyone loves to complain about their security) tried to prevent the spread of viruses which connect to as many IP’s as possible. The 10 half-open connections means 10 at a time, as soon as 10 is reached it will move onto another 10. As root mentioned something similar earlier, the speed of torrent depends on the tracker and the peers connected to it. Why make XP any less safe?

Hey i was wondering how do you get the setting to stay?, it seems it reverts back all the time, do i need to keep doing it until it doesnt revert anymore?.

66 Feb 15, 2006 at 18:03 by Ernesto

some windows updates changing it back to 10, but that should not happen too often. Other that that, i have no clue.

How do you know the setting is reverted by the way?

hey guys. I am a newbie to the business, so someone please help me out. I am using Bitlord 1.01 dwn speed is max 30 kbps or sometimes even 2 kbps. I have hacked my tcp limitations but still no use.please help me out. My email add is emperorcrp@yahoo.co.in Please respond. Thnx.

68 Feb 18, 2006 at 16:42 by TD

u can tell the tcp connections has gone back to 10 by running the tool again. in the window, it says the limit for 1/2 open tcp connections.

69 Feb 18, 2006 at 19:37 by doh

I think the problem for many of you is where you are getting these torrents from. Probably poorly seeded and too many users on the tracker.

For those of you on DS3 speeds (54mbit), are you sure you actually have a DS3 or are you just reading some sticker on your 802.11g wireless card? ;)

If you really do have that fast of an INTERNET connection, then maybe your hub/switch/router/NIC is only set to 10mbit and not 100mbit.

LASTLY… make sure you check this simple step:

Decrease your UPLOADING rate to about 80-85% of your max rate.

70 Feb 19, 2006 at 17:24 by zerocool

hay, ive got the same problem as WIRERACER- ive got bitcomit and ive found torrents to download. they apear in the download screen but never begin-they just sit their an dont connect?! please help?

71 Feb 22, 2006 at 09:51 by Jasvanth

all those people complaining about he patch not working its most probably cause you dont have much peers. try getting a POPULAR torrent and it will work people.

91 Mar 25, 2006 at 10:20 by Anime King

Hey people i have done wat the forum says but it will only work for fast connections like CABLE, ADSL2 and faster. It will not work for ADSL 1.5 and slower because you speeds are limited while faster connections have a more bandwidth listen up to make it faster go to http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php and download the patches from the site once that is done use all the patches that apply to your system winxp, win2000 etc then download a tool called advanced system optimizer and tweak everything in the tool then use the tcp/ip patch from
http://www.lvllord.de/ use it and patch the connection to the max possible (Edit torrentfreak DONT DO THIS, it will slow your torrents down, see the instructions in the post) but do it after installing all windows updates because somes updates restores the connection back to the orginal file. Make sure you have a decent firewall and antivirus because once the changes are made torrent files will go off. have the protection

92 Mar 25, 2006 at 12:06 by frankdee

would like to try

93 Mar 25, 2006 at 14:46 by Ernesto

Anime King, the max possible is NOT good, especially on slower connections.

And I already mention the lvlord patch in the post.

once u’ve launched the pach, it’ll do its job and reboot the computer. Xp will then ask u to insert xp cd (file changed, xp will not work properly, bla bla bla), click CANCEl and patch will continue its work…

By the way for those with SP1, u don’t need the patch, only for SP2 version of xp

95 Mar 26, 2006 at 04:07 by bluejay

By the way, to come back to Jimmy’s post (1/16/2006), i have the same problem, no admin rights. Looked around in forums, it’s because of xp PRO. As it’s configured for local networks (companies and so on…), Admin rights problem is very complicated…

Anyone knows how to solve this. I’ve managed to pop up the “SECURITY) tab in properties for every folder except for the patch. Can’t even extract it from “.rar” to my desktop. Says cannot move file, access denied…

send me a message on my email (bluejay_fr@hotmail.com) if u can help in any way

Are you sure you aren’t confusing your wireless local network speed with your actual internet connection speed? You should run one of the speed tests to clear it up.

hihi….
Can u teach me how to configure my azureus 2.4.0.2 to allow 80 max half open tcp connection..
And other tips to speed up my connection plz.

I am on WinXP SP2 and I was bucking 250KB downloading speed without this patch or changing the setting in option in uTorrent but I applied it anyway, don’t see any change but that may be because I could only go up to about 300KB with my connection and also I didn’t reboot windows or even restart uTorrent… anyway, how could I have been downloading at 250KBs when I did have that setting in windows set to 10 and in uTorrent to 8.

Of course speeds vary, I don’t always get 250KB but mostly 50 to 100 KB, suppose depending how good your particular torrent is

105 Apr 15, 2006 at 16:03 by Fidget

i have been battleing this problem for months…I ahve a 1.5 meg down 1 meg up connection…I do speed test all the time and never see anything underthat…I use sp1 and I am NOT behind a router. I do use webroots desktop firewall but have tried alot of dl’s with it disabled…I have 2 clients that i use (bitcomet and utorrent) and both of them are extremly slow….I use a private tracker with not alot of seeders, But everyone else on the tracker get desent enough speeds but mine NEVER go above 20kps…I have been through all the settings in bitcomet and everything but the advanced settings in utorrent(most advanced settings in utorrrent i dont even Know exactly what they do)..I dont know what to check from here..sp1 has no connection limatations,
Tracker is not a problem(atleast not for others), port forwarding is not an issue with no router, its not the firewall..Is ther any other explaination besides my isp capping my ports? By the way, i failed to mention when dealing with http downloads i blaze, the only slow speeds i see is with torrents and all other p2p i have tried. Can anyone point me in a direction, i am fresh out of ideas!?!

where to i go to figure out how to forward my ports?

115 Apr 29, 2006 at 14:09 by coldfax

My TCP connection was already set at 500 when I installed bitcomet. I then decided to see what happens when set the connection to 99999. HAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I even pulled a dick move and only allow 1 upload slot, 1 upload task at [no limit]. So there won’t be stealing my bandwidth fuckers

116 May 01, 2006 at 06:13 by amir

looooooooooooove

117 May 04, 2006 at 21:22 by john

Someone help me out, my max number of half open TCP came at 500 when I downloaded the program of the bitcomet site. Is that good?

118 May 06, 2006 at 10:27 by Sarcasm

i dont kow if u been reading, but if u heard u’d know that anything from 30-100 TCP is good, so 500 is extremely good

119 May 07, 2006 at 11:37 by Ict Cramps

I downloaded that patch and set it to 100 then i set the advanced setting (net.max.halfopen) to 100 as well , my downloaded speed went from 0.5 (average) to 3.0 (average). Brilliant. Instead of waiting 1 hour to download it took me 20 minutes.

120 May 09, 2006 at 17:44 by TE

Works great. 10x a million times

It sure worked for me, I almost quadrupled the download speed on good torrents.

Thanks

123 May 15, 2006 at 06:36 by Captain Dark Marker

For anyone who is having problems with there connection

Step 1. Download the tcp/ip patch and set your port to the desired half tcp/ip ports u want open

Step 2. Download bit commet and set the open tcp/ip ports to the same number as u picked for your desired ports

Step 3. This one not many know about, if u change your port to 1720 which is the port used for vioce over ip or “Voip” u will get a higher download rate cuzz they can’t packet shade this port……. Im getting in between 200 to 300k so it must work

124 May 15, 2006 at 22:39 by Jonathan

I had the same problem as Jesse: Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced with unrecognizable versions… I need help desperately, I don’t think I have my disk!
I’m afraid to restart my computer without knowing what could go wrong with the renamed windows files.

125 May 19, 2006 at 11:23 by joe

I get torrent downloads of 700 +. If you dont believe me a picture is worth a 1000 words.
LOOK:- http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/2681/utorrent2nn.jpg
You guys can’t see the forest for all the trees.
You are so far off at getting good speed it aint funny.
O well you can suffer in your jocks and work it out yourselves,,, hint To get super speed,,, it’s all in the XP registy and that goes for surfing also.

126 May 19, 2006 at 11:55 by joe

RE ABOVE POST:
Also this aint a one off and the above pic was just to show you the speed i can get. I do not download the crap in the pic,I don’t need that crap.I pay my way through life. It was a good site with a lot of seeders and just for show OK.I get slower speeds at different sites, but not too much slower,, it depends on how many peers & seeders there are but the real speed tweaks are in registry settings.I will release them one day when I have had enough of Torrents because soon as I do “they” (big brother) will put a stop to my tricks.

127 May 21, 2006 at 02:27 by dormo

Bull SH** joe!!! I have seen that same uTorrent picture that you have linked to on another site and it was made with Photoshop. It was made up for a Gotcha.

joe is having this forum on.There are no Reg Tweaks in XP to get that much speed……….
Speed like that just doesn’t exist worst luck.
NO JOKERS PLEASE-Just Helpers

128 May 24, 2006 at 15:44 by Tommix

This fucking patch is some kind of virus or trojan.. And all that crap can be dome by regedit…no need patchs..

129 May 24, 2006 at 15:50 by Tommix

And Joe - you’re stupid asshole… If i have 256Kbits/s internet connection speed - there no way to do a 700Kb and the f..picture shows nothing, cause maybe you speed is 4Mbits/s …

130 May 28, 2006 at 17:05 by Joe

Is that so Tommix & dormo well right this minute I am downloading Splinter Cell.Chaos.Reloaded at 800+ kB/s so suffer in your jocks kiddies. And your the bull artist dormo because that pic is as real as it gets.
Lokk if you got a good site with enough seeders you can get speed of 800 kB/s and up.It aint that hard to set up µTorrent to run flat out if you have the right registry hacks,,it aint rocket science.
All this crap about changing settings like Net Max Half open to *80 and crap like that is worthless. The max amount you would change Net Max half Open to and this is IF you had a SUPERFAST connection would be 30.Changing it to 80 is total Rubbish. You guys are just clutching at straws.

Hello everyone! I would just like to know if there is any possiblity of resolving my NAT problem given that my ISP doesn’t allow as of present portforwarding [i'm on wi-fi].
How about IP bouncing? One of my friends says that could be of help. Anyone got any ideas? I would gladly appreciate them since my utorrent indicator has never gone green since time immemorial.

Thanks in advance.

HELP PLEASE, will be much appreciated

142 Jun 20, 2006 at 15:54 by Smith

You can NOT change the max number of half-open connections in the registry.
This number is determined by the TCP/IP.sys file. This file was CHANGED in SP2,the patch changes it BACK (or to whatever number you like) This is also the reason some AV proggies flip out:
A program is trying to CHANGE a protected Windows file!!!!same reason Windows switches it back. You need to DISABLE file-protection in windoze.new windoze”updates” will most likely revert your changes to.
If you dont use the patch theres no use wasting time setting this number in your client. Its TCP/IP.sys that controls how many halfopen connections you can have,NO MATTER WHAT you tell a program.
A program can not make halfopen connections that arent there!!

143 Jun 20, 2006 at 15:59 by Smith

146 Jun 26, 2006 at 08:35 by Jamison

Before running the patch µTorrent would level out at 1.0 mb/s and stay there forever, after running the patch and fiddling with settings it’s freaky what this does to my system…Ran patch restarted loaded up µTorrent and proceeded to download, It jumped up to about 2.6 mb/s download, for about 3 seconds and then dropped back down to about 1 mb/s then just levels out and stays like that. I’ve done it EXACTLY the way described here, including running the patch, and the µTorrent specific settings. Looked throught the even viewer and found a few of theese things Here Around the time I booted the machine back up [ http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/3705/untitled7wg.png ]. I did cancel the windows file protection after running the TCP patch so, in short, If anyone could shed some light please do. Excellent guide by the way, just wish It would work for me.

I am a newbie to Bitcomet so please take it easy with me if i look so stupid asking this question.
I have installed the patch and i want to know if the numbers you type in the patch i.e 80 will have to be the same numbers you type in the Bitcomet Preferences.

Thankz in Advance.

Changed the TCP/IP half open setting to 80, done the same in BitComet, reduced the upload to 20 and my downloads have gone from around 30 to 100+ it seems to work for me :-)

Just kept the downloads them same speed for me…

158 Aug 04, 2006 at 11:32 by Big C

i have bitcomet and my download speeds are realy slow, about 10-20 kb/s.
ive tried the patch and nearly every method on here and nothing seems to work, is there anything to help me, thanks alot :)

159 Aug 05, 2006 at 02:48 by zarathustra

The single best thing ANY of you can do with slow downloads is cap your upload speed to a MAX of 80% of the maximum your upload can attain.
Since doing so, I’ve gone from 3kB/s to currently 128kB/s. I have also installed Lvllord’s patch & set max.half-open to 70.

Good luck! =]

160 Aug 08, 2006 at 22:49 by Gazbo

Great advice guys, worked for me a treat, now downloading 90MB files in under 15 mins, average download speed has trippled, thanks again, great work!!!

161 Aug 10, 2006 at 01:31 by C0B01

I think this download is a load of bull.. I have a 8Mbit connection, and was getting (relatively) low speeds of 40-50kbs and after running the patch, doing everything as it says, my connection speed has now dropped to less that 10kbs sometimes even 2kbs (slower than dial up!!)… my connection is now running at about 2% utalization. I am going to have to do a complete system reinstall because of this download. ANYONE READING THIS BEWARE - DONT DOWNLOAD AND RUN THIS HACK/PATCH.

I installed this on a relatively new box running XP sp2. 3Ghz, 1025MB RAM @ 3200.

162 Aug 11, 2006 at 01:16 by p00ch0

how do i check my upload speed?

another thing, windows keeps on changing my max TCP connections. how do i stop that

163 Aug 15, 2006 at 00:14 by Cheeeser

ok i download at like 1-10kB/s and this usually take ages use this patch i get around double it now is there anyway to speed this up ive heard about forwarding ports but whats the port number that BitComet uses?

164 Aug 21, 2006 at 16:29 by Gaping Ape

Tried all the suggestions, and it made a huge difference. Was only getting 20-25Kbps, now 300-400Kbps! Also checked out Cable Nut and Zone Alarm. Both are really helpful to me, whereas I am not an expert on anything PC related. Thanks for the tips guys.

165 Aug 23, 2006 at 03:21 by Renegade

I’ve change it just like you said and it works great !!! Thanx!

167 Aug 27, 2006 at 19:17 by Ernesto
the patch is infected with a trojan
No It’s NOT
Some antivirus apps may report it as a trojan but it’s perfectly safe
100%

168 Aug 28, 2006 at 09:56 by tramline

Why are so many people on here bragging or complaining about their speeds and not mentioning thier actual Internet Connection speed. Thats kinda THE most important thing.
I Have a 1.1Mb Dl and 768Kb Ul
I average speeds now of 56KB/S down, 41KB/S up
I used to get 110KB/S down. No tweaking, fiddling, port forwarding or magic will help me. This month I have overrun the fair usage download policy by my ISP. They increase my contention ratio thingy and am left with a slower download speed although the connection speed is the same. Next month it’ll go back to normal again. This is how they explained it to me and i thought it might be useful to share here. So people, Check your Ts & Cs of your ISP!

169 Aug 28, 2006 at 14:01 by tony

tramline is right, check ur isp t&c`s. Also try enabling encryption which will help for a lot of people.
This hack is a lot of shit. Its been around for ages and just plain makes no difference to how many seeds you can connect to.
The d/l speed you get will depend mostly on the number of seeds/ leechers on that torrent. Also the quality of seeds, if you can only upload at 20k don`t expect everyone else to be able to upload much faster. Chances are the other seeders are on similar connection speed to you with their speeds shared amongst the other leechers as well.

Another factor is what tracker you use. If you`re in “Public tracker hell” then don`t be surprised if you get a shit d/l speed. A lot of people on public trackers limit there up speed and don`t stay to seed afterwards. If you want top speed join a private tracker and keep your ratio up or you`ll get booted off!

170 Sep 03, 2006 at 05:57 by MrAnderson

No change.

171 Sep 04, 2006 at 07:26 by Nicholas

hey, i just got a news that BT Engine can really accelerate torrent downloads. Izit true?

172 Sep 11, 2006 at 14:25 by Arkanen

Do author of this article realy do know what he is talking about ??? Half-open connections are temporary, not closed or fully open connections, if connection to some host is fully initiated, its leave half-open pool, it could be just slower connecting to peers, but then it don’t mean anything, you realy don’t need more then 20/s. You know why some of you got realy poor speeds after applying this ? Because setting this too high can saturate your connection leaving no space for real traffic. Remember also that if some connection is open for too long, that means host is busy, or you got realy poor route to him, and that means you won’t get decent speed from him, period.

173 Sep 13, 2006 at 20:16 by scrimshaw

Just a note to everyone… this patch has been around since XP-sp2 was released.
It’s completely safe. Some anti-virus apps may say it’s a virus, trojan, etc, because it
changes the tcp/ip system defaults.
If you want to change it back, just run the patch again, change the half-open connections back to 10, reboot, and all will be back as it was.

It may not work for some people, because the torrent they’re trying may not be solidly seeded… but usually, I find people keep having slow d/l speeds, because they haven’t done port-forwarding. If you haven’t done that, then check out this website, and follow it’s instructions… http://www.portforward.com/help/pfprogression.htm

Lastly, you have to make sure your firewall, is properly configured for your bittorrent client. Either check the client’s support site, or your firewall’s support site, for how to configure it.

Hope this helps some of you…

yo man…this thing didnt start workin right away but the patch said that i should restart the comp but i had some downloads going already so i didnt restart…

177 Oct 06, 2006 at 09:45 by Suddism

I have a 256k connection and I am using uTorrent I downloaded the patch and installed it doing what I thought was the correct thing. To my suprise my download speed actually sunk to a VERY slow speed which disappoints me, so I had to uninstall the program and my download speed went back to normal. Help would be appreciated, the kind of help that would point me into the direction of how to actually use this program the proper way, considering all the people this has worked for. I would really like to get it working myself so an extra help guide would be great, Ernesto (or whoever can) ,thanks.

178 Oct 06, 2006 at 11:48 by Suddism

well, I got it to work all you do is get the patch put it at a number of upload ips (mines 80) then once that is setup you have to reboot your computer, start the torrent up set the upload limit there to the number you set for the patch (as listed by the author of this post), if you dont get faster download speed its probably because of your connection or maybe its the seed upload speed.

I am currently getting about the same speed I usually get, but just a bit faster.

179 Oct 06, 2006 at 17:29 by BabyTaz

i dont quite understand … what do i do?… with this i have moved it to 80 like it said and i will turn it back but does it make it faster or what does it do im no quite shure :S

180 Oct 09, 2006 at 05:53 by matt

i just reinstalled windows and went to get the tcp/ip patch and the page is not comming up, not sure if it temp down or for good, does anyone have an alternative download point for the tcp/ip patch

181 Oct 09, 2006 at 19:36 by no_pulse

I’m having the same issue some people are having. It seems after applying the patch, my download speeds have dropped. Yet my upload speeds have improved!
Here are my specs: I’m on cable, I’m running both the latest versions of Zone Alarm and Azureus. I’ve noticed that you can configure the torrent client to allow 50-100 max half-open TCP connections in µTorrent and BitComet, but is there any settings in Azureus to apply these changes?

Also is µTorrent or BitComet better than Azureus?

182 Oct 12, 2006 at 00:03 by HAVOC

Anyone know if this works on Windows XP X64, the 64 bit version of Win XP?

183 Oct 12, 2006 at 08:29 by Robby

remeber the more connections u got open the more traffic you have in headers and requests. Most requests could be dropped for all you no, resulting in more overhead..

of cource this is only a small amount but be careful. Only go as far as your connection will let you;)

THIS WORKS LIKE A CHARM. Thanks. I am using uTorrent and i am getting good DL speeds, but this patch has increased my DL Speed drastically. Thnks

186 Oct 26, 2006 at 10:34 by Sinister

Hey there, I just did what was required from you in order to ’speed up BitComet,’ but unfortunately I do not seem to be seeing the slighest difference. I downloaded the patch, restarted my computer, changed all the settings which were suggested (e.g. not leaving the ‘maximum download rate’ to ‘unlimited’). I STILL do not seem to see any difference. Is there a certain amount of time which I have to wait before the actual patch gets to work?
Additionally, my seed is 10/40 whilst my peer is 10/649.
How is it possible that I am only connecting to 10 peers out of such a large number of peers available.
HELP NEEDED DRAMATICALLY!
WOULD BE GRATEFUL IF YOU REPLY BY EITHER E-MAILING ME BACK, OR REPLYING TO THE FORUM!
THANKS.

And damn suggestion? - thankz to angel’s my damn port is 24000 and it’s freakin cool using this damn port. even my ISP give me damn 288Kbs connectivity is still manage to get 3KB download rate, but any good damn suggestion???

26kb+ so thanks guys.

190 Nov 07, 2006 at 03:26 by tipsy

How do people get their download rate to 500kbs per sec??Thats amazing my rate is around 20-30 only…

191 Nov 08, 2006 at 17:49 by f0xh4x0r

Because some people live in an area of the world where bandwidth is always unlimited and speeds are plentiful, while in other parts you have a monthly bandwidth limit and get very slow “bandwidth” speeds. I download around 3000 KBps. But some can go up to even higher than that (people in college and people that have access to large companies internet connection)

I was getting 2kb/s and then i forwarded to my router the port used by utorrent and now i’m getting 200+kb/s. Just thought I’d pass on what’s worked for me. Very simple with no patch, this is my first time running utorrent. In preferences go to ‘connections’ and find: ‘port used for incoming connections’. This is the port that you want to forward. Forward one for tcp and then another udp. That’s all I did and now I’m getting super-fast speeds.

================================================
NO changes are done after patching and configure torrent’s program

it depends only how many peers have my file !!

this way will work great at high scale :::
>>if there is too many peers have my file and my download speed is very high >4Mb and i can’t use all of it’s BW.
so, at this situation this way will be Excellent.

Help, i can’t seem to get the utorrent port forwarding working. I went thru the portforward website stilll i can’t get it done. My com is connected to a router and i did the configurations but stil can’t achieve a portforwarding detection. What do i do?The worst thing is that uTorrent is not even downloading anything even though seed and peers are sorta detected 0(xxx) and 0(xxx). I am really in desperation. This has been going on for nearly 1 and a half months. the fucking isps

how do you decrease your uploading rate on utorrent

199 Dec 14, 2006 at 15:30 by eden

decreasing your upload speed will decrease your download speed, it’s in the options, have you looked? i wouldn’t bother.

Did you try all the other settings. If you only get 14kbps, this patch wont help either. What is your max upload and max download speed?

Hello all

With the new BitComet version (0.79) you can configure your half open connections in the preferences menu, so no need for the patch…
I first set it to 80 but saw in the statistics window that they never exceeded the max of 35 so set it to 35 obviously ;). I have Cable connection (20mbps/512kbps). Atm not much change in speed…

Did you use static ip ? or juz forward the port only?

I cant really see any differance in opening more half open connections i tryed it on 80 and theres no difference to 10, but some downloads i can get 500kb/s+ and other are 100kb/s and less i think it only really matter how many seeders you have to download from

208 Dec 26, 2006 at 06:27 by l1nk1n

it does NOT work for bitcomet. i already had a download speed of 143kb/s and it didnt go up after changing to 80. it dont do shit for anything, its just a program to mess up your windows files. it’s pretty much a virus. it will try to crash windows xp SP2.

Good job. Pretty Big Improvement. So what are the security issues of having 80 concurrent TCP connections?
