SXSW 2007 Embraces BitTorrent: Over 700 Free MP3s
Written by Ernesto on February 22, 2007The South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference is one of the biggest and most popular music festivals in the United States. For the third year in a row now, SXSW released a DRM-less collection of songs that can be downloaded for free with your favorite BitTorrent client.
The torrent of the 21nd SXSW edition includes 739 MP3s of some of the best upcoming, as well as established artists. The 3.1 GB torrent can be downloaded from the SXSW website. A list of bands that will play at the festival can be found over here.
This is the third year in a row that SXSW uses BitTorrent to share music of the artists that perform at the conference. Last years MP3s were released in two sessions that are both still available. The 2006 release is a collection of almost 1000 MP3s, and both torrents are still alive and kicking.
A torrent with film trailers from the movies featured at the 2007 Film conference will be put up later this month.

Have you tried this “torrent”?
It’s a trickle. I’ve downloaded 10MB (2-3 songs) after 24 hours - with 297 days remaining. 0 seeds - 0 peers.
Working an absolute treat for me, I think this is one of the coolest things about SXSW. Contrary to the previous post I have 1 seed in 22 peers- perhaps their main server is being bottlenecked or people are not seeding.
I lost last years files when my computer died so I’m glad the .torrent is still alive.
THANK YOU.
ist bestimmt voll geil
