SymTorrent: BitTorrent on Your Mobile
Written by Ernesto on March 13, 2007SymTorrent is a BitTorrent client for mobile devices that allows you to download torrents over WiFi, GPRS and UMTS. The free and open-source BitTorrent client is developed by Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
SymTorrent is built for mobile devices that run the 3rd or 2nd edition of the S60 platform.
Featurewise, SymTorrent is still quite basic. At this point it can’t compete with most PC clients, but it is still good enough for the occasional downloader. The latest SymTorrent version (1.21) was released a couple of days ago, and now includes support for multi-tracker torrents.
BitTorrent is going beyond your desktop computer. In the future we will see more and more products that enable BitTorrent users to download content without using their PC. BitTorrent founder Bram Cohen said that one of the reasons BitTorrent Inc acquired uTorrent was to port it to embedded systems on TVs, cellphones, and other non-PC platforms. The Taiwanese company IAdea already developed a “BitTorrent microprocessor”, that enables hardware manufacturers to create .torrent compatible devices.
I wonder if the iPhone will come with a BitTorrent client…

just found the updated version myself. I,m new to torrents but have used the other p2p file sharing where you search from the program, not torrents. A few questions for ya. The torrent tracker, does it increase speed only if people connect to your file or just how many youve made available. Also when someone searches, is my origional file name the one used to find my file or do I need to specify name and how long till its available once I start the tracker? Any help would be great more specific to this program, not general theory of how it works. Rainingportland@aol.com.
