Following on from reports this week that the Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN had moved to take the Demonoid BitTorrent tracker offline, its host Leaseweb, is set to appeal last week’s decision to force it to reveal the customer’s details of the smaller BitTorrent site everlasting.nu.

It has been almost a year now since the controversial raid on The Pirate Bay. Recently, Prosecutor HÃ¥kan Roswall said that he was determined to press charges against the admins of The Pirate Bay. However, new information has leaked which shows that the Swedish police has nothing to give to the district attorney, and doesn’t have a strong case.

The popular Romanian BitTorrent tracker Torrentbits.ro was raided and the two admins of the site were placed under arrest. Torrentbits was founded little over a year ago but was already among the 200 most visited websites in Romania. Both admins are charged with copyright infringement and face up to 4 years in prison.

ThePirateBay’s brokep made a cryptic post on TPB’s blog a little over an hour ago. “It’s coming” he tells us. If that post was made on any other torrent site, you might get a little bit of interest but of course this is not ‘just another torrent site’. This is The Pirate Bay, the most infamous BitTorrent tracker on Planet Earth.

Sweden is considered to be a safe haven for Pirates, and received a special mention in the piracy report that was published this week by the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA).

Several BitTorrent trackers in the Tomsk region in Russia have been shut down. The reason for the takedowns is still unclear. Some suggest that the cybercrime division of the Russian police, also known as “Department K” is behind it. Others think that it is a drastic measure to decrease bandwidth usage by Tomsk’s local ISP.

The Pirate Bay, one of the most popular BitTorrent sites on the Internet, posted some interesting stats. At the moment 53 .torrent files are downloaded from The Pirate Bay every second, which adds up to 4,579,200 torrents a day.
