Last month one of three injunctions obtained by Hollywood lawyers required that Swedish ISP Black Internet must stop providing access to the world’s most famous BitTorrent site. The provider has just complied with the court order and in turn became the first in Sweden to cut their customers off from the site. Whether this opens the floodgates for other ISP blocks remains to be seen.
Black Internet, the ISP that was previously a supplier of bandwidth to The Pirate Bay, was threatened with large fines earlier this year if it did not disconnect the world’s largest tracker from the Internet. Now the ISP has been given leave to take the case to the Court of Appeal.
Last week a Swedish court ordered Black Internet, the bandwidth supplier to The Pirate Bay, to disconnect the site from the Internet under threat of large fines. The site was quickly back up with a new ISP but now several Swedish political parties are being openly critical of the law used to take the site down.
The ISP that supplied much of The Pirate Bay’s bandwidth before cutting them off yesterday, is reporting that it has been sabotaged. Calling in experts and the police, Black Internet says the attack on them is intentional and has caused substantial damage.
Following the earlier court defeat for Fredrik, Gottfrid and Peter and the pending civil action taken by several Hollywood studios, the Swedish authorities have now ordered The Pirate Bay to be disconnected from the Internet. The site’s bandwidth suppliers have been threatened with a large fine. The site is completely offline.
