The Pirate Bay, Torrentspy and mininova have entered the top 200 most popular websites on the Internet. The recent boost in traffic was caused by the downtime that Isohunt, another popular BitTorrent site is currently suffering.

Isohunt.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent search engines was taken offline by its ISP. The takedown is most likely related to the lawsuit initiated by the MPAA last year.

Torrentspy ended 2006 as the most popular BitTorrent site in terms of traffic. Mininova settled in second place this year. Last year’s winner, The Pirate bay, ended up in third place.

Podtropolis, the popular “Ipod” torrent site had to close its doors a couple of weeks ago. Podtropolis had financial problems and wasn’t able to pay the bills.
But it looks like things changed for the better. Gary from Isohunt.com came to the rescue…. At Podtropolis we read:

CBC interviewed Gary Fung, the man behind Isohunt.com. Isohunt was recently sued by the MPAA, but planned to fight back.
Gary is glad his voice is heard:

Targetpoint, an ad-company that is offering targeted ads is targeting BitTorrent sites. Targetpoint recognizes the potential that most BitTorrent sites have, and is already a partner of several torrent sites. Most of the time it stays with serving ads on a pay per click basis, but they sometimes go even further, and try to buy these sites.
