  • MPAA Demands Hotfile Data From Google, Search Engine Refuses

In yet another episode in Hollywood’s year-long legal battle with one of the world’s biggest cyberlocker services, the MPAA has now drawn Google into the dispute. The MPAA says that Google holds valuable information on Hotfile and should produce it, but the search giant is refusing without the file-hoster’s consent. Hotfile says ‘no’ on the basis that the deadline for discovery expired last year.

  • White House Declines Comment on MPAA Bribery Petition

Two weeks ago we reported on a “we the people” petition asking the White House to investigate the MPAA’s alleged bribery practices. A few days ago the petition reached its goal of 25.000 votes, and the Obama administration has now issued an official response. “We appreciate your participation in the We the People platform on [...]

Clear bribery, the petition claims, and already thousands agree.

We can’t let [...]

It’s official. The MPAA went off the deep end. MPAA CEO Chris Dodd just called out Wikipedia, Reddit and all the other sites that plan to go dark tomorrow for misleading, abusing and punishing their users. Or should we say “corporate pawns.” The MPAA would of course never put their business before the movie goers. [...]

  • MPAA Joins RIAA in “Monstrous” Jammie Thomas Appeal

In its appeal against the file-sharing mom Jammie Thomas, the RIAA has asked the court to reinstate a massive fine which U.S. District Judge Michael Davis previously slashed because it was “monstrous and shocking.” The music group argues that awards as high as $1.5 million for sharing 24 songs are appropriate and constitutional. In their appeal, the RIAA is joined by the MPAA who also want to overthrow the standing verdict.
