  • Reddit and WordPress Urge Congress to Shelve SOPA/PIPA

A coalition of 70 groups, including Reddit and WordPress, are asking Congress to stop working on the pending SOPA and PIPA anti-piracy bills. Many experts have voiced serious concerns that should be addressed first, they say. Among other things, the groups argue that the dubious piracy stats as reported by entertainment industry should be ignored. [...]

  • We Need Copyright Reform, Not ACTA!

As a Member of the European Parliament, I very much welcome the increased attention the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) has received in the past weeks. It has taken a while for massive outcry to emerge, but we are seeing protest voices getting louder and louder.

  • US Voters: Censorship is a Bigger Problem Than Piracy

In the wake of the online protests against the pending PIPA and SOPA anti-piracy bills, Rasmussen asked US voters what their opinion is on the issue. Clear bribery, the petition claims, and already thousands agree.

  • Internet Revolt Gets SOPA Postponed, Again….

Here we go again. Last Friday SOPA was delayed until the various stakeholders reach “consensus.” Some declared SOPA dead as a result, but just a few days later House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith announced that the SOPA markup is expected to continue next month. That announcement was made a day before the major blackout [...]

  • The Pirate Bay Slams PIPA / SOPA in Public Statement

Earlier this week The Pirate Bay stated that they don’t see the pending PIPA and SOPA bills in the US as a threat to the site. Today, as the Internet protests against the two anti-piracy bills, The Pirate Bay is also weighing in with a public press release. “We believe that laws should be created to serve the public, not the rich corporations,” they say.
