The filesharing documentary Steal This Film has been a great success. Yet, despite millions of downloads and a lot of support from the P2P community, they admit they haven’t yet covered the costs of producing STF II. There is hope though.
As previously shown, BitTorrent can be a boon to the independent film-maker. Usually a lack of money restricts the distribution of a film, but occasionally the content works against it. As well as the promotion of new, aspiring talent, torrents can be used to spread films which may be politically discouraged from more usual methods.
Last week we reported on the release of Steal This Film 2, a documentary about the past, present and future of filesharing. The film is free to download, but people are encouraged to donate some money if they want to support future projects. Surprisingly, the pirates who decided to donate were quite generous.
We’ve been waiting… and waiting… but STEAL THIS FILM II has finally been released, and it’s available for free. The League of Noble Peers announce that film is intended to ‘bring new people into the leagues of those now prepared to think ‘after intellectual property’, think creatively about the future of distribution, production and creativity’.
Steal This Film 2 is a yet to be released documentary about filesharing, and how this affects our society. Ironically, a cammed version of the documentary already leaked on BitTorrent a couple of days before its official launch.
