GigaOm did an interview with Andrej Preston, aka Sloncek. As a teenager Andrej founded Suprnova.org, which once was the most popular BitTorrent site on the Internet. Andrej’s currently living in San Fransisco where he produces TorrentFreak TV and several other great shows for his new web video portal.
For those people who’ve been using BitTorrent for longer than 6 years, the name Suprnova.org is likely to bring back memories. In the first half of the previous decade it was the largest BitTorrent site on the Internet. Legal pressure eventually led it its demise, but this week the site has been relaunched by its founder as a video portal, complete with a little BitTorrent flavor.

In 2007 the Pirate Bay crew resurrected the legendary BitTorrent site Suprnova.org, which had shut down due to legal pressure three years earlier. The legend returned, but due to a combination of circumstances it remained just a shadow of what it once was. This week, The Pirate Bay crew returned the domain to its former owner who now has big plans for the site.
We are about to end the decade that brought us BitTorrent, and all the good and bad that came with it. In a series of articles during the coming days, we will review some of the most pivotal torrent sites that emerged over the years, each of which left their mark and brought us to where we are today.
This week the world’s first torrent hosting service was born. Named Torrage, the sole purpose of the site is to provide a platform where both individual users and large torrent indexers can host their torrents. It is currently in use by EZTV as well as the former BitTorrent giant Suprnova and the makers hope that others will follow.
The legendary BitTorrent site “SuprNova” will return today, courtesy of The Pirate Bay. Not surprisingly, the new and improved SuprNova has a special message to the copyright police: “You are the past and the forgotten, we are the Internet and the future”.
