We all know that BitTorrent is probably the best way to transfer large files, but this doesn’t mean that one should increase the filesize because they distribute something over BitTorrent.

Just as many social bookmarking sites are said to be run by a small group of active users, the same seems to hold for BitTorrent communities where 10% of the users upload as much as the rest of the 90% put together.

The award winning Canadian documentary ‘The Corporation’ has been released on BitTorrent for free. Filmmaker Mark Achbar just released an updated “official” torrent of it. Everyone is free to download, watch, discuss, and share it.

Targetpoint, an ad-company that is offering targeted ads is targeting BitTorrent sites. Targetpoint recognizes the potential that most BitTorrent sites have, and is already a partner of several torrent sites. Most of the time it stays with serving ads on a pay per click basis, but they sometimes go even further, and try to buy these sites.

During the past two weeks the Dutch anti-piracy organization BREIN forced 6 (small) torrent sites to stop their services. Brein is known for its intimidating techniques, and is successful in taking down sites, mostly set up by hobbyists.

According to lightreading, P2P traffic is not hurting the major U.S networks at the moment. This was the conclusion of interviews with the leading technology executives from three of the four largest carriers in the U.S. At the same time it means that throttling BitTorrent, and other P2P traffic can not be justified at the moment.
