Fresh data on the market share of BitTorrent clients shows that uTorrent remains the client of choice for most BitTorrent users in the West. A sample of more than half a million unique peers further shows that Transmission is gaining ground, while the once so popular BitComet client slowly fades away.

The Pirate Bay’s tracker closure has spurred several discussions about DHT, BitTorrent’s fallback technology for when central trackers are unavailable. According to some, DHT has some problems of its own. Novell, for example, decided to ship openSUSE with the BitTorrent client Transmission, but not before stripping DHT support.
Fresh data on the market share of BitTorrent clients shows that uTorrent remains the client of choice for over 60% of all BitTorrent users. Vuze is in second place, but its market share has dropped to 14%. Transmission, on the other hand, continues to gain ground, with the client’s market share increasing by 23% in the last two months.
An objective sample of more than 165,000 unique IPs shows that uTorrent remains the client of choice for more than half of all BitTorrent users. Vuze is in second place with its market share growing to 18%. BitComet on the other hand is losing ground as the client’s market share has dropped 38% in two months.
Millions of people use BitTorrent daily, but little is known about the market share of the available clients – until now. An objective sample of more than 150,000 unique IPs shows that uTorrent is the client of choice for more than half of all BitTorrent users. Vuze is in second place with close to 17 percent followed by the mainline client with 12 percent.
The popular cross-platform BitTorrent client, Transmission, just released a new version. Along with other enhancements it now comes bundled with Clutch, enabling users to remotely control their torrents from any web browser.
