After nearly six weeks of downtime, the leading TV-torrent release group EZTV has made a comeback with a completely revamped website. The EZTV team has implemented many new features, including detailed information on every released episode and support for customized RSS feeds to replace the now defunct TVRSS website.
Source: EZTV Makes Comeback with New and Improved Site

Founded in the spring of 2005, EZTV was an attempt to fill the void left behind by several other TV-torrent sites when they were taken offline. In the years that followed, it grew to become the leading TV-torrent release group, with some of the more popular releases being downloaded up to two million times in just one week.

It therefore came as a surprise to many that the site went blank this June. At first rumors surfaced that the site was shut down through legal action, but in reality EZTV was busy transferring the servers to a new location, and working on implementing several new features while they were at it.

EZTV’s Novaking told TorrentFreak that downtime was initially caused by hardware problems, but they decided to take advantage of the situation and relocate all hardware to a new datacenter while implementing several new features.

“It was hard to work on the new features while the site was operational, as I don’t get enough hours in the day to maintain and code a new one,” Novaking told TorrentFreak, explaining why the downtime took longer than expected.

The wait is over though. Today the site has returned with more features than ever before. Aside from getting the forums back online, EZTV now dedicates a full page to each released episode, with download statistics, a sample of the release and several download mirrors.

EZTV’s new episode page

In addition to these episode pages, all the TV shows now have their own page as well as a user generated show rating, a description of the show and related news items and general information.

On top of the changes in the site’s functionality, EZTV has also switched to using the OpenBitTorrent tracker instead of those of The Pirate Bay. “That was a pretty easy decision,” Novaking told us. “With the current sale of TPB it would only be a matter of time before we couldn’t use it anyways, so we made the switch before that happened.

As if that’s not enough good news already, there is even more for TV-torrent addicts. Coinciding with the relaunch of its site, EZTV is launching a replacement for TVRSS, a site where users could generate custom made RSS feeds for their favorite TV-shows.

The new site, named ezRSS, has the same functionality as the TVRSS website that was taken down two months ago, and is compatible with all BitTorrent clients that support RSS downloads.

Novaking said that ezRSS is one of features he’s most excited about, although it’s still uncertain if it will be able to handle the stream of new users without any significant problems. “I’m hoping our servers can handle the load,” he said.

There will be plenty of interest, that’s for sure.

RSS can be a real time saver for BitTorrent enthusiasts. Rather than manually trawling many torrent sites hunting for material, most will agree it’s much more convenient for the content to come to the user. This is exactly what you can achieve by using RSS and these ten handy tips.
Source: Top 10 BitTorrent and RSS Tips

In this article we will cover some of the most useful RSS tips and tricks for BitTorrent users.

1. Download via RSS

Let’s start of with the most important part – downloading .torrent files from an RSS feed. There are a couple of BitTorrent clients that are able to handle RSS feeds. Bitcomet, uTorrent and Vuze for example all have an RSS feature. A list of all compatible clients is available on Wikipedia.

The process of setting up RSS downloading differs for each individual client, but it’s not hard to figure out. uTorrent has published an elaborate guide on its website that walks you through the various steps and options. The most important part, however, is where to find the RSS feeds. The next tips will cover this.

2. Search Based RSS Feeds

Most of the larger BitTorrent sites offer search-based RSS feeds. The reason they’re called “search-based feeds” is because they are feeds that relate to particular search terms. For example, if you search for ‘TorrentFreak’ the search results will have a link (orange button) to a feed that will send you updates on all torrents that match this search term.

3. Uploader RSS Feeds

The search feed may work well for less generic searches, but in some cases feeds based on torrent uploader might work better. User based RSS feeds might be a good idea if you want to download all the content that is uploaded by a specific user, aXXo for example. Uploader RSS feeds are supported by The Pirate Bay, Mininova and several other sites.

4. Premade TV-Torrent Feeds

Since quite a few people use BitTorrent as a VCR or TiVo alternative, RSS feeds are a great help in automating TV-show downloads. There are several ways to import your favorite TV-shows into your download queue, but perhaps one of the most convenient is FeedMyTorrent. FMT offers several pre-configured RSS feeds that won’t list any duplicate episodes. The site only launched recently and as such is still in Beta, but the feeds are fully operational.

5. Create a Custom TV-Torrent Feed

Premade feeds are convenient, but impossible to customize. BitTorrent users who want some more control over what appears in their RSS feed might want to give tvRSS a try. With the advanced search options everyone can generate a personalized TV-torrent feed in no time. Detailed instructions on how to do this can be found in one of our previous articles.

6. Download Torrents Remotely with RSS

Instead of relying on content from specific users, tags or searches, there are also ways to add torrents to a feed manually. This can be used to download torrents remotely, so when you’re away from the computer your BitTorrent client is running on in the background. An easy way to add torrents to a personal feed is to use mininova’s bookmark feature. Another service that offers custom feeds, not restricted to mininova is FeedMyTorrents. For both services you’ll need to have an account.

7. Ted

Ted, the torrent episode downloader, is an advanced TV-torrent downloader that makes it easier to import TV-torrents into your BitTorrent client. Ted keeps you up-to-date by checking the RSS feeds of your favorite BitTorrent site for new episodes of your favorite shows. The application comes with several pre-added feeds, so there is no need to find the RSS feeds yourself.

8. Broadcatch with Miro

A great example of an all-in-one BitTorrent solution for video downloads is Miro, formerly known as the Democracy player. Miro is an Internet TV player that allows you to automatically download and watch the latest TV shows, video podcasts and more. These players are especially useful for people who only use BitTorrent to download video files, since the BitTorrent client is built in. Miro is platform independent and comes with several predefined channels. However, you can also add your own RSS feeds for your favorite TV-shows.

9. Read Those Feeds

In the first tip we explained how RSS feeds can be used to download torrents automatically. However, RSS feeds can of course also be used as a notification system. That is, you can use BitTorrent feeds with your regular RSS reader, and decide whether you want to download the torrents that appear in the feed yourself. This way you will have total control over your downloads. The downside is that the downloads will not be loaded into your BitTorrent client automatically.

10. The Latest BitTorrent News

Last, but not least, we encourage every BitTorrent enthusiast to add our RSS feed to their feed reader. Not only will this keep you updated on everything that happens in the wonderful world of BitTorrent, you might also stumble upon some useful tips every now and then. For those people who want to watch TorrentFreak’s latest news, a BitTorrent compatible feed for our TV-show is available here, or alternatively you can subscribe with iTunes.

Episode 1 of the highly anticipated 6th season of "24" has been leaked onto BitTorrent, even Jack Bauer couldn't stop it. For those unlucky chaps who don't know, 24 is the wildly popular TV show that has fans the world over dying for each new episode.

The leak is the work of AsiaTeam, a Spanish language group known to regularly upload TV shows and movies to BitTorrent. Several commenters on mininova are convinced that these are “the real thing” and not fakes. A contact who says she downloaded the torrent just confirmed that it is in fact 100% real.

From the screenshots (1, 2, 3) posted on mininova, it seems the AsiaTeam guys have not only episode 1, but the entire Season 6 Premiere DVD that will be released on January 16th. This DVD contains the the first 4 episodes (screenshot) of 24 season 6, and a preview of episode 5.

And just to spice things up, here’s an exclusive:

Even though my colleague at TorrentFreak tells me it is completely normal in the world of BitTorrent for TV shows to be leaked, I am amazed that something like this could happen.

In July 2005, the pilot episodes of 5 upcoming TV series were leaked onto BitTorrent. Although many believed that it was ABC themselves who had leaked the episodes to get the hype going, it is unlikely that a mainstream content producer would do such a thing. Many upcoming episodes of the TV series Prison Break, among others, have been routinely leaked onto the Internet, and in particular, BitTorrent.

We can’t link to the torrent for obvious reasons, but it’s not hard to find.

update: episode 2, 3 and 4 are out

tvRSS just released some extra features that makes it easier to find the latest episodes of your favorite TV-show. They optimized their search options, and support "search based rss feeds". This makes it easy for anyone to create a personalized TV-torrent feed. This means you can have all your favorite TV-torrents in one feed.
Source: How to make a custom TV-torrent feed

So let’s say we want a feed for the latest 24, Lost and Prison Break episodes.

(Note that downloading TV-shows can be illegal in some countries. If so, consider moving to another country or collect the torrents just for fun)

Step 1.

Go to the shows listing on RSStv.net. You’ll see a list of all the available shows. Browse through the list and click on your favorite TV-show.

Step 2.

You’ll now see a listing of the latest episodes. Take the Prison Break list for example. Notice that there are double postings in the list. This is because there are more distribution/release groups releasing the same episode in different qualities.

Use the search field on the top of the page to narrow down the results untill only see one release per episode. For example, select EZTV as the distribution group and LOL as the release group. Hit “search” and you will see that you narrowed the search results down to one release per episode.

Perfect.

Step 3.

Now we want a rss feed for these customized results. All you have to do is Click on the “Search-based RSS Feed” link

Now you have your custom TV-torrent rss feed.

Step 4.

If you have more that one favorite TV-show you have to merge those custom feeds into one. So repeat step 1, 2 and 3 for all your favorite show and save the links to the custom feeds somewhere (copy / paste, I wouldn’t advise to write them down, ;) )

If you have all the feeds you need, go to Feedjumbler, or another feed-merge service and merge your feeds into one.

Step 5.

Congrats, you’re done. Now all you have to copy the feed in your favorite rss reader.

Check out the 24 & Prison Break example (available feeds or html)

You can auto download the torrents using torrent clients like Azureus or uTorrent. Another option is to use thunderbird, or other email apps that support rss feeds to receive the latest torrents. Or just import the feeds into bloglines, my yahoo, newsgator, google desktop, windows live, netvibes… you’ll get it…

Have fun.
