To steal it means you must deprive someone else of something. If the current RIAA definition of stealing was true, then when you went to see a movie and told someone else the plot of the movie you would be stealing. What was the girl going to do? Sell her cellphone on ebay for $200 just because it has a short clip of “Transformers” on it? A low definition shaky fuzzy horrible sounding clip at that. It did not deprive anyone of any profit to do what she did, in fact it would have made the kid want to see more and added to their profit. As far as Jai’s “You guys” comment, nobody is going to sell a DVD burned with a copy of a “cam” recorded movie as a “real” dvd, and from the people I’ve met who download movies, they only do it to see if the movie was worth renting/buying. As far as laws being enforced because of criminals, does that go to every outdated law? Including the racist laws that said blacks couldn’t vote? Nobody should ever try to change any outdated law or fight against something that is clearly wrong? You need to get a clue, people who want to enjoy media are not criminals because they copy it. I have mp3 copies of my cd’s but if I give a copy to someone else who owns the cd’s and doesn’t have the technical knowledge of how to rip it themselves, I’m a criminal? If I were to buy a CD and set it on fire no one would care, why should they care if I copy it for myself?

This is crap. I would understand kicking her out of the theatre, and maybe even banning her… but $2500 and a year in jail? I’m sick of my tax dollars paying to keep nonviolent “criminals” in jail. All they had to do was make her delete what she recorded, and the problem would have been solved. She wouldn’t have gained anything, and the mpaa wouldn’t have lost anything. The mpaa makes millions, and complain that they’re not making trillions. And the actors make millions for playing make believe in front of a camera. Is that more deserving than say.. a fireman or a school teacher? All I can say is that those greedy ass clowns at the mpaa won’t be getting any of my money. I can do without watching their crap; I don’t even want to steal it. If a movie comes out that is really that good, it’ll eventually make it to cable. I just wonder when they’re going to outlaw DVRs. Someone else pointed out that only dieing industries consume their consumers.

Generally speaking you want to keep your customers happy. So if you’re arresting your customers (and pissing off the rest of the theatre by interupting a movie to arrest a customer) there must be something wrong.

Ethical or legal or not, this is another sign that the theatre industry as we know it is coming to an end.

By this I take it you don’t think it’s unethical for say Brad pitt(or any other high payed actor/actress) to make 60 Millon USD / movie (take or give what ever suits you) while the ones that acually writes the manuscript basicly gets robbed?
