I may have to eat crow here, because the one I was thinking of was an episode of Angel from 2001, which was the first episode shared on the IRC-channel I used to hang out in to get new eps way back when. It was shared the same day BitTorrent was released, as one of the ops wanted to try it as an alternative to the queueing-system that was in operation back then. We all downloaded the BT-client, and the op released the torrent for us to queue up for instead. Within minutes everyone was downloading the file. For about 10 minutes we were not impressed, and then… speed.

The torrent was kept alive as a sort of relic, and it was still alive last I checked, but it seems to have disappeared since then. So yeah, I seem to have been wrong. I still think one of the private trackers from 2003 has this ascii-Matrix beat, but I can’t confirm…
