The pirates are out to get you…
Don’t let them brand you with their mark.
Piracy funds organized crime and will destroy our film and video industry.
Piracy costs jobs and will destroy our music and publishing industry.
Piracy funds terrorism and will destroy our development and your future enjoyment.
Don’t touch the hot stuff.
Cool is copyright.
Copyright is a matter of fact.
Don’t let the pirates burn a hole in your pocket.

Pathetic attempt at spreading anti-P2P propaganda.

It’s like the FBI warnings on VHS tapes. Did it stop anyone from copying VHS tapes?

P2P, or “Piracy”, as they call it, is here to stay. It cannot be stopped, period. Whether that’s good or bad, who knows?

Glad to see UK tax dollars hard at work.

  • Soulxlight

Yeah I know what you mean YoungestCEO. What is really hurting the film industry are sequels, and lack of imagination. They just want to lay the blame anywhere but in there own laps…

  • CJ

Screw these people, I’m gonna start an orginastion to thwart their evil ways, well call it the Foundation Undermining Copyright Kiss-asses, or FUCK for short. Our message….everyone needs to FUCK to ensure the survival of the planet against these morons who co-habitate with us FUCKer’s. – CJ

  • THeJUlk

As I have posted several times and said; The piracy is not undermining anything.
They earn alot more because of p2p, have you ever bought a cd u havent listened to in mp3 format?
Have u ever purchased a game without trying it first?

And well if the product u test sucks, dont buy it.
That way there will be less bad products.
    Suport good companies (Nintendo eg.)
    ;)

  • Mr Lolly

    “UK tax dollars”
    ahahahaa

  • kdsde

    @ “YoungestCEO” and “THeJUlk”
you both do exactly what these propagandapieces wants to archive!
    by saying things like
“P2P, or “Piracy”, as they call it, is here to stay.” or “The piracy is not undermining anything. They earn alot more because of p2p”
you are (maybe unintentionally!) comparing what those that do share peer to peer do, with those that sell counterfeit stuff on fleemarkets for example.

THIS is exactly what those propagangaguys want the public to do: That the public doesn’t recognise anymore the differences, then it is easier for them to bribe politicos to use the same laws against those that do profit from commercial copyrightinfringement against those that share on a nonprofit base with their “digital neighbours”.

Don’t do them this favour! This spot is really nice, and it is correct in many ways,
(remember the “founding terrorism” thingy, the organised music crime [they pleded guilty(!) of pricefixing] are those that terrorise ordinary working people all over the world, so they are in fact terrorists and this FACT PSA is right that by buying those products (even legitimate ones IMO) you are funding terror and you are guilty by association!)
but it is definetly not a spot that has ANYTHING to do what p2p is all about!

Don’t get fooled by them! Don’t even remotely make a connection between p2p and commercial copyrightinfringement that isn’t there!

Thank you all for your cooperation, now move along. Nothing more to see and remember “war is peace”!
    ;-)

I don’t even know if I understood kdsde completely. What i got is that there is a difference between someone “sharing” files from a purchased movie using a Peer to Peer (p2p) file sharing network than somone selling and making a profit from that counterfeit movie. If that’s the case… then I agree.

However, I disagree with “war is peace”, it cannot be even close to a true statement becuase they are complete opposites, according to fact that it’s an antonym. Source for fact = http://www.synonym.com/antonym/war
    ;-) back at ya

    Now as for the whole
1.)”Apparently piracy funds organized crime and terrorism.”
2.)”Piracy funds organized crime and will destroy our film and video industry.”
3.)”Piracy costs jobs and will destroy our music and publishing industry.”
4.)”Piracy funds terrorism and will destroy our development and your future enjoyment.”

ok, lets be realistic for a second. despite the fact piracy CAN be considered an organized crime, it cannot be an act of terroism nor can it DESTROY our film and video insdustry (shouldn’t it be industries?… we have free market economies). Has it destroyed any industries? will it? im pretty sure the industries will still be of use. Terroism comes in threats. If piracy is a threat then that threat would be people simply using, but not supporting with payment to the industries that created the software… how is that a threat in any way? Now, if you disagree then look up the words “terroism” and “destroy”, and learn some facts unlike the idiot (or person who thinks we’re all idiots) who wrote this article.

Knowing that our software distributer’s companys cannot be destroyed… neither can it destroy our enjoyment or jobs.

to sum it all up… this article is completely opinionated and false to fact or the truth.

    @anon
Ernesto isn’t the “author” of this piece. He just reports what this british anticopyrighinfringement corporate mouthpiece FACT is saying in their filmspot!

and this short “war is peace” sentence is a quote from 1984 ;-)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteen_Eighty-Four
    * WAR IS PEACE
    * FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
    * IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

  • kdsde

a short (9 minutes) film that is a bit more realistic then this FACT propaganda
Watch here: http://www.no-copy.org/movie-play.html and/or download this CC film (google has it as good quality avi!) and translate it into what ever language you want/can.

  • Tyrax

“Don’t let the pirates burn a hole in your pocket” !!
Whose Pocket? Is it talking to the ordinary “BOB” Citizen or the corporate executive?
Maybe sometime later they will claim that p2p groups found the 9/11 !

  • GusMing

This is just like the video saying if you smoke weed you go insane. It has been provin that the record industry hasn’t been hurt by P2P, sales have not been affected. In fact it has helped out the underground indie bands that if P2P wasn’t around wouldn’t be found as easily found or heard cause if distribution from independent labels. The movie industry shouldn’t be also mad cause who wants to spend 10 bucks on an ending of make a copy (The ring) and as it was said in the other posts here, part 2s and imagination is their downfall brought on by themselves.

  • brabar

I don’t know for sure how this industry works abroad, ’cause I’m french …

Anyway, anybody who buys any support able to record any media pays a tax upon it, which is supposed to pay for copyrights … Beside that, our industry has been making for more tahan 30 years incredible profits, that they’re used to spend in the most stupid ways …

Today, they have to face the changes that we all have to cope with, and they’re still trying to claim for more money … Let them learn … @_@

  • address.unknown

Wow that video was amazingly lame! How are the pirates burning a hole in my pocket? WTF?! o_O

  • Brad

I buy a lot of movies for a buck or two in Viet,China or where ever. I watch a few times & pass it on to friends. When I really like it I`ll buy the real one for the sound & picture. I`m not wasting my money anymore buying shit movies the bizz keeps pumping out, and they have been mostly shit the last few years! Why not try to have them around 10 bucks each, since it`s only costing U guys pennies each now on disc? That itself would kill the illegal bizz too,Yes? I remember when CD`s came out,the bizz said”When we have most of people buying discs instead of tapes or records the price should drop to under 10 a disc” Well that never happened either did it? Fuck em, they did it to themselves!!

  • 0mega

I dont see how the money we spend at a market or any other shopping place where we get coppied movies or games goes to fund terrorism, it goes to the person that sells the product, now if they were a terrorist then yes it would most likely go towards it, but mostly its just a normal person trying to make some easy money, I personally know people that copy movies and games and they take the money for themselfs and they arent terrorists. I think sharing free music and other things over P2P programs helps with advertising. I also think music (albums) and movies are over priced, many a time i’ve fought about trying a new movie or music band because I like to try new things, but I dont want to risk waisting my money. The government just cries about it because they are losing their share of the pie.

  • C0R3

Alright, kdsd, stop talking in code or cryptics, it’s just confusing everyone.

    I agree mostly with Anon.

People are also missing a very important part. The pirating that this little vid is referring to,(or at least more closely resembles) is actual bootlegs. The kind that are sold on the streets. *Those* really are organized crime and do/can affect sales/distribution/blah/blah/blah.

    That version of piracy wrong.

The reason it’s wrong is because the wrong person is getting paid though. The bootlegger is being just as greedy as the big company’s and keepin it all for themselves.

What you people are missing is that P2P *IS NOT* piracy. There is no exchange of money between hands. It’s goodwill(mostly… not in totality though), and the exchange of decent entertainment and arts.

Although the ‘owner’ isn’t getting paid, neither is the distributor. Half the time the quality isn’t as good either. Another half of that fraction the person will(if he likes the movie/game/music/etc. enough) go buy the real version, because it does not lack-luster in quality what-so-ever(…it would be the original after-all…).

As a side-excursion, this relates to why DRM fails. It ruins the original, and devalue’s the hardwork put into the piece of work. It in fact hurts sales, and makes people want a copied, passed around version, not because it is the original or as valuable, but because the things that ruin the original can/usually are removed(harmful or unwanted ID3 tags, or DRM encoding, or maybe you just needed a certain subtitle set for it).

Last side-note, I know this will not be complete enough, as I never remember to say everything there is I could say about this, and after I go watch the video-link that kdsd posted(so that I can be correct in all subjective views, and be fair to all parties) I most likely will not be returning(was originally looking for the best bittorrent client for this old win98..).

  • 007

You got to be kidding me

  • 007

I believe that they could better themselves if:

They release movies to DVD at the same time as theaters.

    They Lower their greedy prices.

They stop using money on pathetic advertising that are getting them nowhere.

And Piracy does not fund criminals and terror, most of it is made by teenagers in mommys basement.

Who the fuck do these people think they are. I love my pirate bay. If copyright is here to stay then google is fucked. The idea of a shared world database of information is fucked. Everything that we hope for as a global internet populous will never exist because most of the information we wish to use and access is “Protected” by copy right information. I hope that one day this idea of copy right will fade away. I hope one day my children will be able to access all the worlds books from google or another internet database like wikipedia. The idea of the internet is to share information. I hope that idea can stay alive.
