…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead’s latest album “So Divided” leaked on BitTorrent several weeks before the official release date.

Now this is not so shocking, albums have the tendency to leak. However, a post at the “official” unofficial ToD fansite reported that it was the band itself that was the source of the leak. The very amusing article reports that the band wanted to set off a “shift in the music industry” and “force major record labels to reconsider how they view the internet and illegal downloading“.

They even included a very realistic response from ToD’s record label “Interscope Records”:

“They may think that they’re safe because they didn’t get it through one of the more well-known channels, well, let me give a wake-up call to all the illegal downloaders out there on the ‘internet underground’: We’re coming for you. BitTorrent and Soulseek users beware. We know who you are.”

In fact, I was kind of disappointed to read the disclaimer at the bottom of the article. Although the leak is confirmed, the rest of the article is probably more or less fiction. Some things are just too good to be true…

The official release of “So Divided” is scheduled on November 14.
