Top 10 Most Pirated Movies on BitTorrent

Written by Ernesto on December 29, 2008

While “Disaster Movie” appears in all the worst films lists of 2008, it is leading the top 10 of most downloaded movies on BitTorrent this week. Let’s hope this says more about the popularity of aXXo than the overall taste of movie pirates.

disaster movieIn addition to the remarkable first place for “Disaster Movie”, this weeks list includes three other newcomers. The Dark Knight, crowned the most pirated movie of 2008 didn’t make it into the top 10 this week.

The data for our weekly download chart is collected by TorrentFreak, and is for informational and educational reference only. Currently both DVDrips, DVD Screeners and R5 rips are counted.

Well, of course, (almost) nobody would want to pay to see "Disaster Movie," since it is most definitely not worth it. Now just tell that to people who say that it is somehow "stealing" and that people should be paying for the movie to "compensate" the creators – as if somehow, people who downloaded the movie would otherwise have paid for it.

Disaster movie was one of like 20 rip offs of scary movie, and it was the worst out of all of them, this is pathetic. It isn't even new, it's so random its up there.

I thought seven pounds would have more action

4 Dec 29, 2008 at 05:30 by nadie007

i can't imagine transporter 3 being any better than transporter 2. gawd

8 Dec 29, 2008 at 09:18 by Santiago

The reason it made the top of the top 10 is the same reason I'm downloading it now…..morbid curiosity. Like zanfr said, it's like watching a train wreck…you can help but see it for yourself.

haha ive an unmetered seedbox and absolutely none of them have i downloaded , its all becoming utter crap.
The lack of true imagine is beginning to show as the sue em all means fewer and feer cool people actually take jobs in such and industry , what they are left with is american idiol type crap acting and its really beginning to show.
good riddance to 2008 and 2009 don't look any better in fact watch it get progressively worse.
That dark knight wasn't that great a movie but when that's the best they can do, well sad just pathetic and sad. Promotion of an actor who has abuse allegations of wife beating and child abuse, ya perfect batman. Fits hollywood to a tee.

yes be an actor or musican and sue people for a living woot perfect, can we do this for factory job people too, DONT buy ouor product we'll sue you.
YA great idea then they sue us we sue htem and the lawyers become trillionaires
YES the legal take over begins and the fall of the 4th age of rome begins

I know im repeating what everyone else has basically said but i dont think it can be said enough. Disaster movie is awful. why number one? i know because everyone thought it was going to be good until the disappointment they received as a gift from the producers. But on the flip side im glad to see seven pounds is on the list because i really wanted to see that movie. So I know what ill be getting soon :)

I cannot well judge how the movie are, since I have never seen any of them, and the most I have heard of that was "great" was The Dark Knight, which I have also never seen. However, I can say that I do have very low expectations from Hollywood since they really have no interest in, and do not care about the movies themselves anyways, so long as people are paying them. It is not that one should expect more from movies anyways, since there the bad ones, and there are the better ones, always, but the fact that there is absolutely no culture surrounding the movies other than for it to be a money-making scheme for the rights holders is still very much disappointing. What is most disappointing about the movies coming from Hollywood is not the content of the movies themselves, but rather the abysmal culture it is within.

Hollywood can keep making bad movies, and good movies, (which is which is, obviously, quite subjective), but the fact is that culture from which it comes is still absolutely horrendous, regardless of how good the movie itself is. Even when one is looking for some quick amusement to forget 10 minutes after watching it (i. e. even when one does not care much for the movie anyways), I cannot see how a culture based off of control, suing people, where the rights holders care about profits more than they value and care about the work itself, is, in any way, a "good" culture, or even an "okay" culture. The best way to boycott, is, in fact, not to watch the movies altogether.

The best way to boycott this culture from the MAFIAA, is, in fact, not to watch the movies altogether.

I downloaded Epic Movie to see if it was *that bad*. I couldn’t watch more than a few minutes of it. I’m not even going to consider it with Disaster Movie.

19 Dec 30, 2008 at 01:34 by Jacob

I downloaded disaster movie and it was really bad. I rate disaster movie a 0.

20 Dec 30, 2008 at 02:03 by Jacob

I download a lot of movies and a lot of the ones that I have download end up appearing on these "most pirated" lists. Unfortunately most of the movies that I download are really bad. If only I had that super "Gigabit" internet they have in japan. Imagine how many bad movies I could download with super internet. And of course I would need to buy a Raptor Raid set because my HDDs wouldn't be as fast as the internet, and even then they might not be :/.

Oh well I guess for now I am stuck with caped, pay per GB (up, down, national and international), shaped, throttled, pooled, censored, way more expensive than the Gigabit internet in japan and slow ADSL1 that never goes anywhere near as fast as they say it does on their website. And I am stuck because this is about as good an internet connection I can get in New Zealand.

Lol @ Roze. My grammar skills are just fine, I even passed my end of year English exam, and Fire Fox's spell check owns :P

FAKE JACOB!! Every word is spelled correctly and the contents is remarkably… non juvenile dipshit sounding. Well, fake or he couldnt afford pot today.

As for you, though, you seem to have regressed in that very same comment. Were you thinking when you made this comment?

I cannot see how a culture based off of control, suing people, where the rights holders care about profits more than they value and care about the work itself

That's silly – the rights holders are in the business of making money, not quality movies. They pay other entities in almost all cases for the rights to the film if they think they can make money from it. It isn't their business's function to have anything to do with quality beyond whether they think people will pay to see the content.

26 Dec 30, 2008 at 03:31 by KingJames

I have come to expect these charts from TF to be pure made up on the spot Bullshit.

They do not even state their sources!

27 Dec 30, 2008 at 03:39 by Roze

Then, that is the problem itself.

The rights holders who have absolutely no actual interest/involvement in the movie itself, only there to make money – why are they needed? They contribute to (or is the cause of) this culture based off of control, suing people, not caring about the work itself, &c.

28 Dec 30, 2008 at 04:01 by Roze

Of course I was. I just wanted to point out to your attention that your comment might have been just a bit more childish than usual of you.

You guys should do this more regularly (weekly) not just for movies, but for games as well. I would love you if you do…wait…I love this site already…I'll have sexy time with you!

Disaster movie is number one as no one in their right mind would pay for that crap. Burn after reading was good, not bad from the Cohen brothers, at least they're making films where you still have to use your brain to watch them :0)

36 Jan 03, 2009 at 10:24 by Freker

Agree. This is bullshit.
All sad movies mentioned here.

37 Jan 04, 2009 at 04:46 by ICE_30

I think Dark Knight was the best movie of 2008 with superb acting and great stunts.Other than this none of the movies were too good.

More action? It looked like it was supposed to be a romance more than anything else.
