Wow. Here is a brilliantly simple concept; if you don't like a post, don't read it. An opinion as to why the theater sucks seems perfectly reasonable given the nature of this site, the people that frequent it, the article it was posted under, and the comments the preceded it. That makes it on topic and relevant in my book, even if it was a bit on the long winded side.

I think it is pretty obvious that Glenn is either being deliberately dense or honestly doesn't know what he is talking about. My guess is that it's probably a little bit of both.

Perhaps this will help him out:

Make sure to check out the Theater Gallery while you're there. Should give folks an idea of what a true movie enthusiast can do provided they have the means.

You can read wikipedia. Good job. The fact is, according to aspect ratio (where you're sitting, and where the screen you're watching is located.) 1080p TV sets offer better VISUAL definition. Unless your couch is right in front of your TV, or too far back.

The same can go for home sound systems. In a theater, you're approximately 30 feet away from the closest speeker, where in a home stereo setup you're roughly 5 feet away. Which will be more clear? Does a headphone set sound better than sticking a speaker against your ear?

Exagerate all you want, and throw what he said out of context by reading through wikipedia. The fact remains that movies are always better at home. The only advantage of a theater visit, is being able to see a HI-Def uncammed version of a movie 6 months early.

Ask yourself this. Why do you think they don't release a DVD at the same time as a theater showing of a movie? Because they would lose a ton in the box office.

"A given film stock itself may indeed be able to resolve upwards of 4000p provided it’s been used correctly, but after traveling through a lens of questionable cleanliness and build quality (more than once), followed by dusty air onto a screen of questionable quality, all while using a lamp that is much too dim for the distance the image is being thrown, a good consumer television of proper size and viewing distance can easily begin to look better."

Except that cinemas clean their lenses, use high quality well produced lenses, match the lamp power to the auditorium being used. Give up, don't you find it odd that no home theatre experts concur that any low end home screens are better than cinema?

"As for sound, I plan on upgrading to 9.2 once I move into the house the wife and I are buying."

Good luck with that, sounds awesome - wait, a standard for 9.2 channel surround sound doesn't exist, what are you even talking about?

Oh and here's some infoz abhout THX certs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THX

Seeing as you're living in an apartment I somehow find it hard to believe that you have the resources to afford the equipment, baffles, dampening surfaces or in fact the space for cinema psycho-accoustics to be realised.

Have fun with that 9.2 channel sound system though, sounds great even if it doesn't exist. Oh wait, now you going to tell us that you're custom building your own setup even though there is no media to play on it LOL.
