The top 10 most downloaded movies on BitTorrent, ‘From Paris With Love’ tops the chart this week followed by ‘Ninja Assassin’. ‘Legion’ completes the top three.

    It’s hard to know how you relate fascism to me pointing out the obvious fact that a top 10 based on what people are downloading gives a picture of what they want to watch and that the retarded idea that people will want to watch other stuff if they could search better.

    Unless of course one realises that your the type of pseudo-intellectual that uses the word fascism (along with Nazi, Godwin’s Law herp derp) to make yourself seem justifiably outraged when in actual fact Fascism (and National Socialsism herp) have little at all to do with the discussion at hand.

    Thing about the “Top 10″ is it’s like the Top 10 of music; usually filled with your absolute worst kind of mainstream shite, half of which is popular precisely because it’s been popularised through heavy promotion, just like the list here is doing, so you get an amplification of mainstream shite at the top of any ‘most popular’ pyramid. It’s your typical dreck marketed to appeal specifically to the lowest common denominator, those easiest to generate a profit from. Indy/non-major gets drowned out because of it.

    Comparred to many a file-sharing protocol, BitTorrent loves MSM, which kinda makes a mockery of many a torrenter’s arguments against major media. Here you do their work for free.

    Most people don’t want to watch ther majority of independent films due to a number of factors – amongst them poor acting, low production values, silly plots (worst are the ones that try to be “true to life”) and poor cinematography.

    The rare independent films that are actually good get picked up by major distributors.

    Your “lowest common denominator dreck” is films that people can relate to and want to watch by definition.

    If you want to see some emo kids wankery on film fair enough but for gods sake stop whinging about how these types of films would be popular “if it weren’t for major studios marketing and Top 10 lists” They aren’t popular because the majority of cinema goers consider them poorly made garbage.

    It’s rather quaint how you have this attitude that “something is crap because so many people like it” however your failing to realise that poorly made, independent films are in the vast majority of films released each year and these are the few that were made by people who knew what they’re doping and hence became popular.

    Enjoy watching your garbage and feeling elitist because you like poorly made, shoddily produced films – the rest of us who are true cinemaphiles will be honest with ourselves and continue watching the cream of the crop in Top 10 lists.

    I never said indy films were great and everything in a top ten list is junk. A lot of indy is utter shite. What I did aim to say is that a lot of ‘good’ movies probably don’t get the audience they deserve if they’re not marketed to the point where they reach lists like this here. Think of it like analysing a ‘Top 10′ list of pop music where you find bands like Brittany Spears, Take That, Spice Girls, Ludacris, Boyzone, because it’s heavily promoted on tv and radio and print to the point where that’s about all most people hear and know. It’s not to say that great stuff doesn’t ever make it in those lists, or that a lot of people don’t like that stuff, but the media most heavily marketed in the first place largely determines what ends up in those lists, and much of it is done not because it’s great, but because that’s where companies determine the most money to be made.

    So when you throw a Top 10 like this up here what does it do? It promotes the same handful that’ve already been amped up by the industry. Is that not free promotion for them? They might not get paid by downloaders, but they get people talking about their wares and that drives sales.

    Side comment: Why don’t TF have a Top 10 for music?
