Top 10 Most Pirated TV Shows on BitTorrent

Written by Ernesto on November 05, 2008

TV shows are by far the most wanted files on BitTorrent, and according to some, it’s becoming the modern day TiVo. But what are all those people downloading?

heroesSimilar to last weeks, Heroes is leading the chart with close to two million downloads for the latest episode only.

Thanks to ShowInsider we now also include a list based on the total number of downloads of that particular show in the past week, not only the most recent episodes, as is the case with our data.

The data for the most recent episodes is collected by TorrentFreak from a representative sample of BitTorrent sites and is for informational and educational reference only.

Shameless plug: Check out the new show “True Blood”. From what I’ve seen, it looks like a promising new HBO show! ;)

Looks like I should start watching Dexter.

4 Nov 05, 2008 at 14:38 by White Bear

Hmm, there seems to be a mistake there… Why doesnt number one read Top Gear?

5 Nov 05, 2008 at 14:54 by America

Next week, Obama’s victory speech will be #1.

6 Nov 05, 2008 at 15:04 by Viper007Bond

Top Gear was back on Sunday (the 2nd). Why isn’t it listed as #1 like it should be?

Definitely start watching Dexter – one of the most entertaining shows in years.

Pity The Shield isnt on there, looks like many people are missing out on a great show then :\

Highly recommend Dexter ;-)

9 Nov 05, 2008 at 15:58 by watice

i was really skeptical of Dexter @ first, another crappy CSI murderer show, but when season 2 was starting I decided to download season 1 and saw the whole season in a weekend. Simply amazing. Definetly recommend watching Dexter in order.

How can it be possible that how i met your mother isn’t on the list !

Best Show Ever :::::::

12 Nov 05, 2008 at 17:28 by www.eZee.se

Looks like I should start downloading “Dexter” as well :)

The Shield seemed a little too rough(?) for me. I might give it another chance. What do you guys think?

Hopefully with Top Downloads (All Episodes) list we’ll be introduced to new shows. especially during weeks when the popular shows don’t have new episodes, That would definitely effect it :D.

Sorry for the bad English. If you see any mistakes please tell me. :D

Here are always people writing about how great “True Blood” and Sarah Conner…” are. What is it about these shows that makes them so great??
I don’t like them and I don’t get how others could enjoy them…

PS: Please stop writing “my favorite show should be #1″

Heroes is where it should be. Top Gear should be number 2 tho \o/

@13 : I wouldn’t apologise for your English: actually if you hadn’t bought it up I’d have thought you were a native speaker. :)

The Shield is one of my all time favourite shows: it has tough, gritty characters that are believable, a unique storyline (AFAIK anyhow) and shows many levels of society. It’s also shot very well using out-of-the-way amgles and handheld cam shots that arent annoying and add to the sense of being there with the characters. At the moment it’s becoming so tense it’s just awesome.

@15 : I’m watching True Blood – it’s not my favourite show ATM but it is different so I’m continuing. Terminator – well, I’m a huge fan of the whole concept and movies so I watch it for that. Summer Glau is also extremely sexy imho.

OK @15 : My favourite show shoul dbe #1!!

My favourite show FTW!!!

19 Nov 05, 2008 at 22:43 by anteko

you can tell this is going to be the last episode of prison break. They’re in the process of killing everyone off. They just killed Bellick, Michael is getting sick and is probably going to die in the final episode.

I predict everyone except T-Bag and Lincoln are going to die :/

The list seems a bit skewed.
Three of the top shows are female shows. Not to be sexist but most people who download are typically male.

Thus I would think they pick more shows with action or sci-fi.

This is the list I would assume…

1. Heroes
2. Lost
3. Fringe
4. Sons Of Anarchy
5. 24
6. Burn Notice
7. Battlestar Galactica
2. The Shield
9. Rescue Me
10. The Unit

I never cared about TV until I downloaded Dexter. Michael C. Hall is one of the best character actors ever.

22 Nov 06, 2008 at 18:17 by Anonymous

@20: you don’t have a wife/girlfirend.

23 Nov 06, 2008 at 20:39 by pirated

@13

To get entirely nitpicky…
‘That would definitely effect it :D.’
In that sentence it should be ‘affect’ instead. Past that it’s fine and native speakers have trouble with that one, since alot of people pronounce it the same way.

24 Nov 06, 2008 at 22:38 by Anonymous Female

@20:

I know more guys who like Smallville and House than women. Most of the women around here don’t like House’s attitude… stupid Midwesterners.. House is actually really popular overseas, too, which is why I actually have to search to find torrents that don’t have subtitles.

Smallville has just never been one of my interests, and I tend to be more of an action/sci-fi lover myself.

I think Burn Notice should be higher on your list, though–it’s a fun little show, and…it’s got Bruce Campbell as a sidekick–who could complain? :)

25 Nov 07, 2008 at 00:01 by crimson

no top gear?

26 Nov 07, 2008 at 02:09 by xzqvyz

Sons of Anarchy & True Blood!!
I just don’t get the lack of representation for these shows. Ah well. :)

27 Nov 07, 2008 at 03:08 by Anonymous

I liked heroes the first two seasons but now it just seems like a soap opera and the third x-men movie put together…
It’s very disappointing the show had so much potential. Oh well it’s still doing good.

woo Dexter #2 best show u there and south park way to go.

28 Nov 08, 2008 at 18:35 by TecHnicaliTi

yip i have to agree !!! Heroes really kick@ss, Fringe and The Mentalist will be on the list soon !!!

29 Nov 08, 2008 at 19:39 by WARDOGZ

32 Nov 08, 2008 at 20:27 by laszlo

love prison break can hartley wait for season 5 of weeds thanx to all torrentuploaders

33 Nov 08, 2008 at 20:44 by Martel

The main reason a lot of people started downloading TV shows in the UK, was the war between the two main providers. This meant that people were suddenly cut off from some shows.

34 Nov 08, 2008 at 21:21 by Imperor

” ‘blah’ should be on the list”

How effing stupid can you be??? This is not a list based on opinions of a few morons, it’s an actual compilation of actual downloads! (By loads and loads of morons). If your fav is not on there it’s because not that many ppl dl it!!!
Not all people masturbate to expensive gadgets so I’m not in the least surprised that Top Gear isn’t on the list.

I’m a bit surprised that not a single one of Fox’s sunday cartoons are on the list but maybe it’s pretty centered around american torrent sites? Us in europe have to wait WAY too long for the recent episodes of those not to dl ‘em…
