Never totally understood RSS for bittorrent clients….

I guess for those who download movie series, it can be a cool thing…but for those using BT as a replacement to Napster/Kazaa of old (music…) RSS is kind of pointless.

From what I understand, the client just watches the RSS feed, and as a new torrent is posted, starts downloading the next video in line?

Eitherway, that’s cool for him to chime into the filesharing environment and help out a bit :)

Two big thumbs up to Dave Winer. Hope his suggestions get universally adopted.

Some type of RSS standard has been needed for torrent sites for a long time and he has enough “pull” that he might just get the job done.

NOW this is a VERY GOOD IDEA. I’ve been thinking about it since a very long time….

It wouldn’t matter if big torrent indexes like mininova get taken down if all torrent trackers and torrent indexes can exchange their torrents between them, using rss!

I prefer torrent decentralization, perhaps hose sites in ed2k collections if possible? Thne edonkey2000 client has a collection setting where users could make their own colletion that could be distributed for everyone (index). Maybe this is something to look into?

It’s very good idea from RSS promoter. Many users come to uTorrent boards to bitch about RSS feeds that are bad implemented.

And that’s not the role for a BT client to parse all the RSS multiplicity.

I hope some RSS devs will integrate some advices.

Dave Winer didn’t invent RSS, though he likes to promote the idea that he did. The first version of RSS was created by Ramanathan V. Guha. Winer did, however, contribute a lot to later versions of the format. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS

Yeah, it’s good ideea, until ISPs start to analyze packets and detect the RSS feed based on the standardized format of each entry and then automatically shape traffic for all torrents in the RSS feed, no matter if they’re illegal or not.

They don’t even not complex equipment, a transparent http proxy triggered on RSS streams only would do.

I’m not surprised that someone who has created something free for the benefit of the internet seems to be on the side of filesharers (even though he may not say that outright, stating “After Mininova shut down their main service,” as opposed to “After Mininova went legal” probably says it all!!) :D

Anyway, whether that is the case or not, thanks to Dave Winer for RSS and thank you for pushing for standards on torrent RSS feeds.
