Fun fact: Virtually all gun owners in Norway are active hunters, and their weapons are designed for that, rather than for homicide.

Another fun fact: Most hunters by far prefer precision, stability, and reliability, over concealment, quick draw, rapid fire, and big clips. In fact, legitimate hunters don't care the least bit about the latter set of capabilities.

Handguns are hard to get licensed for in Norway; very few want one, and even fewer get licensed. Some semi-automatic rifles are legal; virtually all shootings with a legal firearm are done with these. Unsurprisingly, people who insist that semi-automatic fire is necessary to kill a deer, aren't very reliable. If they believe it themselves, they're either catastrophically bad shots, and will never get a hunting license, or they're psychotic.

People who prefer concealment, quick draw, rapid fire, and big clips, are never planning to hunt. Their planned use for the weapon is homicide; they're either criminals, or suffer from paranoia and violent fantasies. Essentially, if you think you're likely to be attacked, even in the US, you're paranoid. If you think you can win a gunfight where the other guy shoots first from a surprise ambush, you're deluded. If you choose confrontation over withdrawal when it's not a surprise ambush, you're violent, stupid, or both. This is why hand guns are illegal in Norway.

The debate in the US is ridiculous, with no distinction being made between weapons designed for hunting and for homicide. The best indicator that someone should not be allowed to own a gun, isn't mental disease: It's that he wants a gun designed for homicide.

I'm fed up with American looney tunes trying to use Norway as a justification for their masturbatory violent fantasies!

Have you ever considered that the true cause of our low crime rates may be social policies, public health care, free higher education, and a criminal system based on rehabilitation? You know, more or less the opposite of what most gun-nuts believe in.

Norwegian file-sharers will go to court; we're a stubborn people. Traditionally, damages awarded in Norwegian courts are small, and the losses have to be well documented. The claim that every uploaded copy is a lost sale, won't fly. Norwegian courts are also strict when it comes to the requirement of linking the act directly to the person, not merely to the IP-address. Furthermore, Norway has a strong tradition of fair use protection. The copyright holders will be vulnerable to the argument that, if something has been shown on TV, or if the file-sharer saw it legally in the theaters, it's fair use. There are well respected, well funded organizations dedicated to consumer rights; these may decide to fund the defense. Finally, they won't get to hold parents responsible for the acts of minors.

In short, suing for damages is a whole lot of trouble, with very little reward. The law is probably more effective as inactive, than if tested in a legal case, with a big risk of ending in a widely known failure.

Also, the Norwegian Pirate Party (Piratpartiet) is doing well among teens. If the mock-elections in high schools had been the official results, they would have had 8 representatives in parliament. Several other parties also draw voters that care about privacy; the ones voting for the Pirate party are only those who consider it their very top priority. Considering that legal movies, TV shows, and music are doing very well among teens in Norway, who have considerable purchasing power, alienating them might turn out to be very costly.
