@27 – You can do it, just takes a bit of fanagaling. Set the maximum simultaneous downloads to 1 or 2 or whatever, then organize the torrents in the main window in the order you want them to download.

I love using Transmission, I just hate that it chews through all of my “free” memory and leaves my with a big pile of “inactive” memory. These are NOT the same as people on Transmission’s site says they are. My Snow Leopard system runs ten times slower after downloading a torrent and having nothing but “inactive” memory remaining.

After floating around between numerous torrent clients on Ubuntu (including uTorrent in Wine) I finally settled on Transmission. It’s simple and easy-to-use, yet highly flexible and capable. Clients such as Deluge and KTorrent are alright, but Transmission is the only truly consistent client available for Linux today. Congratulations on the v2.0 release, Transmission team!

The thing that Charles needs to understand is that FUUUUUUUUCKKKKK Windows. Dont worry about developing for their terrain, they already have a couple of really good clients such as uTorrent.

The focus should be on making sure that Transmission runs exceptionally well on Linux and Mac.

Which so far it does. I’ve been using the client since 1.3 and I can say Charles and the gang have been doing an excellent job, I’ve seen many improvements. This is the reason I have donated numerous times (though not recently).

As far as I’m concerned, Windows can keep their Bit Torrent programs to themselves. It’s exactly the crap downloaded from these networks that opens to doors to trojan horses and a host of other maladies. Using P2P and Bit Torrent is synonymous with popping the cork on a bottle of bad wine.

Unfortunately in Transmission there isn’t option to download in sequental order! That is the reason why I use qbittorrent as default.

Transmission is a yardstick when it comes to torrent clients, it isn’t common to have native GTK, Qt and OSX client.

What’s more cli client, daemon, remote-control and web-control interface – bottom line this project is awsome.

I don’t see anything nearly as mature or versatile as transmission.

uTorrent for Mac, on the other hand… not doing so well. It just came out of beta, I know, so I won’t bash it to hard.

Plenty of problems and basic features missing from it that makes it a joke compared to Transmission.

I hope they develop uTorrent for Mac more, though, since it’s all I used on the PC for the last 5 years.

@14 Being “commercial” doesn’t make it non-free. Vuze is just as free as Transmission.

@16 If you’ve got a router that supports OpenWRT and a 16 MB or larger Flash chip, it might be possible to get Transmission installed on the router, and just use the web UI from Windows. Like the developers already said, though, they need people with skills in other areas, such as Windows (and OpenWRT, for the above possibliity).

I can’t wait for the 2.0 update to hit the ubuntu repos. This program just keeps getting better. It’s a shame that there’s still no version for winblows users. Microsoft doesn’t play well with others, sorry. I think transmission for windows would give uTorrent a run for it’s money.
