I'm an American, and I agree with your characterization of US attempt to dehumanize certain groups of people. Witch-hunt mentality is still very popular here.

I wanted to make a point about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, though. The US's stated intent in committing this horrible act was to prevent the deaths of millions of soldiers and civilians on both sides. It was decided that if the US did not act in this matter, the war in the Pacific theater would have gone on for many more months. Good or bad, it was meant to end the war very quickly and thereby save many lives.

I think the biggest problem the US faces currently is the huge sway that monetary and commercial interests have over US law and foreign policy. For a number of Americans, the bottom line is the dollar, and I and many other Americans are looking for ways to change this "money is everything" mentality. Wish us luck, eh?

GAH, no! Believe me, you don't want to live in a world where the cops can get away with not reading someone their Miranda rights. I'm old enough to have lived in a world without Miranda rights, and what we needed was for someone to invent Miranda rights, which are really not that hard to forget to give. Seriously, if the cops are so disorganized and scattershot that they forget to give someone as simple a thing as a Miranda rights warning, they're not behaving professionally and they need to have their little asses sat down and chewed out by someone in authority.

Also, if by "professional jurors" you mean "people who can be relied upon to give a ruling that the government wants them to give", you have obviously not given this more than a knee-jerk's moment of thought. It's better than some OJ's go free rather than an innocent person get railroaded into prison. Because in case didn't notice, OJ is in prison, they did finally get him dead to rights, but you can never give an innocent person back the years they spent behind bars unfairly.

The Boston situation is not as bad as all that. Yes they searched houses, but only for the purposes of locating the suspect(s). Under US law the police cannot use anything else they found in that search as the basis of an investigation or arrest. They could have walked into a grow-op or clan lab during that search and would legally have had to shut the door again and forget all about it. At least that's what I've been informed.
