The vast majority of people communicate over the net to their Hotmail accounts via unencrypted means, start by changing your hotmail server address from “http://” to “https://” for starters. If your not sure, jfgi.
If they do manage to win over the likes of Microsoft to allow them access to peoples email accounts then it will lead the way for some serious opposition to the Hotmail empire. Maybe based in Switzerland or the likes, rather than say Russia.
VPN account take up will undoubtedly increase, but care in choosing the right one must be taken, ie. none based in the UK. Also, remember PPTP is one of Microsofts babies, likely to be back-doored or have several unknown weaknesses as well as the known ipv6 one.
Lastly, for now, don’t forget that the chain is only as strong as the weakest link. It does not matter how many measures you take if the person you communicate with is not like minded.
