Oh such naivety and zealousness.

The Media industry throwing millions to “Fight thieving piracy” assuming not only the government, but every entity to Bow down to their will, for without them Economy would FALL!

Thing is that with this they are actively trying to intimidate the Computer&Communication industry. a industry with far greater influence and far superior impact on the economy. They already know the core problem and don’t believe in the “Punish harder” method that sofar has only increased piracy by TRUE research. There is no reason why google,Microsoft,Yahoo would listen to them. In the current world Governments have little to no power over companies. If the tech industry would decide to actively avoid the UK then the govt would quickly see that the media isn’t as influential on the economy then they boasted.

The media-industry is like a bully. Trying to intimidate everybody including the kid that is far larger and more passive (tech-industry). If the large kid is pushed to far and stands up against the bully then suddenly the bully looks a lot less impressive…

What Sajid Javid may not be aware of is these tech giants don’t actually need the UK If they decide not to provide search for people in the UK due to government restrictions it will cost the country billions.

Even more if M$ decides not to supply any of it’s products to this country.

This is what I’d tackle them on, especially as Javid’s a Tory and they’re supposed to be all for putting Britain first. If the focus was specifically on safeguarding British industry, I still wouldn’t agree with it but I’d at least understand – protectionism is nothing new, after all. (Though the Tories caring about British industry is…) But there’s no such justification for the British government to put foreign business interests ahead of its own citizens, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
