@65
Everywhere I go, I see the infestation of this corrupt culture. Something tells me that as long as the laws are as they are, this horrid culture will continue to stay and infest in the social sphere. How many people exactly are turning to indie labels? I see not much of it.

This Fergal Sharkey is like a bad smell!

All the before mentioned industry associations will be propt up by a failed business model.

Someone should tell them, it's not about the numbers, it's about the vision.

“The thing we all realized is that we all agree with each other 95% of the time. It’s looking at where the industry is going to be three, four or five years from now.”

The industry will be one of portfollio artists, self-publishing and generaly cutting out the middle-man and, that means you the industry associations.

These artists will have economies of scale if there work is good enough, long gone are the days where an artist can ride the back of a mass marketing campaign and, sell a load of phiffle.

Your music is your marketing campaign.

You get these artists, giving it the big-un, going on as if there the trendy dog's schalackers, "I'm from the streets"..(rock-stars, home-boy's)...but when it comes down to it.

They make there pact with grasses, who will shop there own followers to the old bill....that's not gangster...that's not real to the streets.

Furgal Sharkey or Frugal shark!...?

we don't need to organize. more and more people are not listening to the radio, MTV doesn't play any music, the records the majors want us to buy are getting worse and worse, being made for some theoretical person that does not exist, driving sales down. All the while, people are turning to indie labels and bands that do everything themselves.

"there is no place for intelligence"

huh? Did you mean "this" is no place for intelligence? I find the witty comments entertaining. I dont think intelligence is in the RIAA handbook oh wait maybe it is

1) try and flame people who criticize the organization.

2) In the event you are made to look particular stupid claim the site for free speech is full of idiots and people living in their moms basement
(despite reality being quite the opposite).

Personally I dont infringe anything. Everything I download/seed falls under the fair dealing provisions of the canadian copyright act. If you cant accept that their are laws in many countries to protect citizens from extortionists like yourself, than maybe your the one lacking intelligence.

Rose, you are thinking like an intelligent adult. On a piracy site populated daily with freeloaders and liars, infringers and pimply faced good-for-nothings in their Mom's basement, there is no place for intelligence. And you knew that all along. :-)

@59
How can we really be better decentralized? What can guerrillas do? How can guerrillas win over people in government? How can guerrillas become more successful in pushing an agenda? Unity in a social and political movement is key to its success. Without unity, there can only be failure. Even guerrillas need some unity, however decentralized it is. What ultimately needs to change is policies in government, and that cannot happen by "guerrilla warfare" alone. Unless people are prepared to do drastic things in this "guerrilla warfare" - like make public denunciations, make public demands, stir people to action, engage in civil disobedience, and go to protest meetings, then nothing will happen. Without unity, there can be no successful political or social movement. After all, a successful political or social movement is defined by what unifies it.

file sharers don't need an umbrella organization we work better decentraized like now. shutting down Napster was the initially succesful invation of our home land and now it's guerilla warfare and we're winning. and besides there's always EFF if needed they're like our soviet funding :D

"Sharkey will be expected to unify all the hopes and dreams of all the other umbrella groups under his guidance, whilst influencing the decision makers in government, which should become easier with the recent arrival at UK Music of Jo Dipple, the former strategic communications adviser to the Prime Minister."

Answer me, all of you who know:
What are our (the file-sharers') hopes and dreams? If we have hopes and dreams, do not you all think it would be best to unify them as well? Do not we also wish to influence decision makers in government? Shouldn't we also be trying to win over influential people in government?

"In 2009, UK Music will deliver a manifesto calling for government support in propping up the ever more bloated music industry - probably starting at the bar of one of many additional black-tie ‘umbrella’ events UK Music will spawn."

Answer me, all of you who know:
What shall our (the file-sharers') manifesto be? What shall we call for government to do? When shall we start issuing this manifesto?

I think that these are important questions. The music industry have already set X, Y, and Z as goals. What goals do we have? What are we doing/will do to achieve them? Surely, without thinking about these questions, nothing will get done on our behalf.

As I have said, if the Music Groups are going to launch an umbrella organization/coalition, is it not about time that P2P-users also unite under an umbrella organization? Something needs to be as a counter-weight against this. Perhaps much of the nonsense will stop once this happens. What is most important is for pro-file-sharing people to unite. Only then can something REALLY positive happen.

Actually its not, it was done by a christian colleague, not that it matters in any way... other than to people like you.

Its really nice of you to reply to my messages, its easier to see what kind of a person you are, for example we now know you are:

A person who eats up the media propaganda or helps spread it.

Pretty unintelligent

A 'dirty mouth' when all your points are proven moot

and

a person who dislikes muslims, ALL muslims not just the crazy ones who blow themselves up.

I really am surprised you said muslim and not something like 'n*gger muslim' or put 'jew' in that sentence.

This is my last reply to you, so whatever further you have to say.. feel free to talk to yourself.

Good day! Now excuse me while I start up my p2p client.. after all if it was not for people like me these coalitions wouldnt exist now, would they?
I create jobs too!!!!

:D

I really am surprised you said muslim and not something like ‘n*gger muslim’ or put ‘jew’ in that sentence.

This is my last reply to you, so whatever further you have to say.. feel free to talk to yourself.

Internet piracy sure is providing a lot of jobs for people. Look at all these groups that have employees working to stamp out piracy. the thing is, if piracy goes away, they all lose their jobs. So they don't REALLY want it to go away, just sue a few people/children/deceased corpses, so that they can get their paychecks (which i bet are rather large).

Awww, did I corner you with no way to go so you come back name calling?
Sad.

I like a game I buy it, I like some music i try to give directly to the band/artist, I do used to by CDs a loonnng time from the retailers... then later if i ever wanted CDs I always bought second hand.. you might have heard of a site called "ebay", if you have not... google it up.

I also support musicians by going to concerts and buying tshirts etc there.

As for creative, I program for eZee.se (www.eZee.se) including the AJAX greetings.. but i dont expect to be paid everytime someone sends an ecard from there.

I have also programmed some other apps that will be showcased there in the coming days... and dont miss out articles section either, its full of tips for morons like you and unlike TF we are not against calling the RIAA bastards, scumbags, scum, extortionists and a whole lot more.

Cheers!

Say what you want about P2P, copying, stealing, whatever, the industry F*%@s artists over more then the internet ever could.

BTW, how much does it cost to prosecute a years long failed lawsuit?

the point is that even if i was a millionaire i would still get my stuff "unauthorized" (maybe buy the good stuff like i do it now from time to time as a form of donation ...) . legal service providers just can't compete with the illegal ones in terms of quality, convenience, offer etc. on RS you find just every somewhat relevant movie ever released and it's never "out of stock", "2 weeks wait" etc but on my HD in 10 minutes.

media companies could never get this done because they will never all agree on similiar terms (although the music industry is at least trying) so the only way to do this is via the state. and it's not as impossible as it sounds, in fact we even used to have something like that here until 2007 when they adobted the copyright laws to the 21. century (moar liek adobting the 21. century to the copyright laws ... ): you paid a small amount of money on every dvd, burner, etc. and therefore you could copy everything for yourself, family, friends etc (now you may only use legal sources like bought cds)

a mandatory tax on every dsl line (dependent on the speed) and you're done. if everyone had to pay it not even the content industry would be complaining because they get at least something instead of nothing: tada everyone happy and if you don't use it; your fault you pay the same basis tax on your car as everyone else no matter if you use it or not don't you? would be cheaper for everyone than paying taxes for ridiculous prosecution and it's not like no one bought dvds in the countries where downloading is still completely legal anyways ...

"Industry sues people with fiction-like fines just because to scare them and others who read it via news. They know people will never have to pay such fines. It’s all to regulate system."

Which f**king rock have you been living under? people have been paying these crazy fines for years now, $3k-7$ is no joke to normal working class folk.

Regulate the system? you mean try to protect a failing... oops, make that failed and outdated business model.

And one big point you seem to be forgetting, when it comes to getting artists and cut discs that is your world and quite alien to us. The internet..., programming..., digital distribution etc... is OUR world and you can NEVER compete here, you will always feel alien here while we feel at home thus you can NEVER beat us just as if we tried to start a small label and beat the big boys.

You are going down a spiral, the sad thing: you wont even admit it or in some cases, you dont even know it!!!!!!

Ohh Reasoned Mind you have me all figured out dont ya..

Funny how to can gleam all that from that post.. you must be SUPER INTELLIGENT. Oh please tell me how I can gain happiness through material things! After all.. everyone who has material things is happy! Thats the key to happiness! More power, more stuff, more everything!

See what I conveniently left out is that im an IT Administrator, competing is what I do. I dont believe everything should be equal, but I also dont believe in monopolies. I believe in natural evolution of businesses.

So let me turn this back onto you.. see your idea of doing this is working great right now.. uhh ohh.. wait.. not isnt.. what this? The economy is f*cked.. oh yeah thats what you believe in..

And surely its just going to get better through right? I mean this is just a little problem... oh no wait this is going to happen again on an even larger scale since well.. the economy is built to fail.. just like you.

The best part about it is.. when all is said and done.. you wont have any material things since you will be shit on, no retirement, if your lucky your grand children might get you in a home.. so we may end up right next to each other..

Except I will have led a much better life since I didnt base my happiness off of material things.

And it's thousand times more you'll ever have :D

Not being a part of that decadent, ridiculously fetichist system (oh I just wet myself, I can buy a new car when I want *masturbates*) that keeps you have a "I can have it and I only enjoy it become I know others can't" way of thinking - which makes me think that your mental age is around 5 yo - is a pleasure that a conforming, formated idiot like you or the other proper job turd will never even understand.

So have a nice consumerist life, have a family that you won't know (what's the name of your kid already ? what does he like ? who cares, he'll go to university !) but please, feck off, and don't tell others how to live.

All we'll ever have ? A broader and more independant culture ? Friends ? No need to get a TV fix every day ?
Oh damn, my life is so horrible !

#31 Unproper Job is one of life's losers. He cannot compete, he blames everyone and everything (including the very system that created this network and his ability to read and post to it) but he avoids the inconvenient truth of his own lack of talent, intellect and application. Let him steal if it makes him feel valuable and powerful. He's a loser now and he'll live his life out as an angry, entitled loser. Artists who create are valuable and powerful. Industries who monetize music and movies are valuable and powerful. Filesharers, who can't even hold down a proper job or attract an adult income, are the real losers in this world. So let them steal and feel good about themselves. It's all they have. It's all they will ever have.

Virtual world isn't the only plce where people get multi billion suings. They get it as a warning not to do it again.

You people sound communists - everything should be equal between people. This model, unforunately, doesn't work. People are career-hungry which is good for the country overall (that helps you, too). Only uneducated and poor people support communism.

I have a quite good job, i have a family, and i'm happy. I buy my albums from stores, i download DRM-free tracks from music sites (yes, i also don't like DRM).

And remembe, thanks to capitalism we've gone this far. Publishers pay taxes to the country, thanks to country everything is advancing (payed taxes).

>It’s unethical to use something unauthorized just because you earn little.

But its ethical to screw the artists themselves? Without their product you would'nt have a job (proper or not)... but that does not matter right?
Its also ethical that the music they produce belongs to the label and not to them so the label can continue to collect royalties long after they are dead.

Its also ethical to sue children as young as 12 years old, single parents, broke ass collage students, the homeless, the elderly (the dead?????!?) for thousands of dollars?

Its also ethical to make up false laws and accusations?

You are and your industry are going down, WE, *the consumers* have decided that.

I'm happy this umbrella group has formed over the other umbrella groups, hopefully some more umbrella groups will form over this one so you can waste your ill gotten gains more and will die quicker.

fail
@29 lolz fail, if someone just wants entertainment and doesn't care about wrong/right or simply thinks it's right to share you wont get far with your "hey dude infringing other people's copyrights is totally not OK so please don't do it" stuff. you have to give them practical reasons not to pirate but since pirated stuff often beats "originals" even in quality (hi @ DRM, 128kbit, trailers before movies etc.) there's hardly any real reason not to do so.

Yeah thats exactly why you support the Rich getting Richer and the poor holding it all up.

F*ck you prick, your capitalist scum, your also exactly what the industry (and government) wants you to be, CATTLE. You do what your told, regardless of it being wrong or not.

You dont stand by anything, since your standpoint is simplistic and narrow minded. We just owned your argument 6 ways to sunday, yet your still the one saying.. ITS WRONG. What do you have to say about the industry screwing everybody the way they do? Is that wrong? Sure 2 wrongs dont make a right, but in this case it makes my world right.

There needs to be formed a pro-file-sharing umbrella group as a counter-balance towards this. Do any of you think that this is a good idea?

I still stand for my standpoint.

Get a proper job! And no, you don't have to earn over average to get your entertainment.

It's unethical to use something unauthorized just because you earn little. It just doesn't work like that.

The self-interests of the record industry and the interests of artists are, by and large, mutually exclusive.

There is no way that a single entity could honestly be looking out for them both.

Case in point: Artist organizers such as Don Henley have been complaining for years that they have not seen a single penny of the millions of dollars that the RIAA has raked in from their lucrative lawsuits against P2P users. (of course they're being told that "expenses" ate up all the money - the standard response the record industry gives whenever they [routinely] shaft artists.)

1 more reason to continue downloading.

best of luck anti p2p privacy thieves. I predict: mass frivolous infringement claims, nobody paying your settlements, more highly publicized court rulings not in your favor, and a greater gain in public appeal of file sharing, ISPS and government telling you to Fck Off, artists continue leaving your criminal front "recording labels" and finally you accept your so called "losses" and jump on the filesharing bandwagon.

oh ya.... thats right this is already happening. Perfect time to join together, so now all the anti-p2p fail in the UK.

If I had a 'Proper Job' (Which to you must mean a substantial amount of income) I still wouldnt buy. Why would I support an industry that bends laws to its interest and rather sue me than compete? Why would I support an industry that wont adapt to new technology? Or even better.. why would I support a company that is no longer needed? They dont pay the artist much.. and I dont need them since the internet is my distribution method. Il support the artist directly.. and download the music directly.

Thats just plain right there, mate.

Let business evolve naturally, this isnt some kind of END OF THE WORLD thing.. every technology was called Piracy in its day. Remember that.
