@neostyles:
"If anything, this only reflects poorly on any country that allows this to actually participate in their political process. "

It doesn't reflect quite as poorly as supporting fascism and the removal of democracy just because you don't like what a party stands for.

As for your rant about how it's an affront to the concept of business, you'd really rather see protectionism and stagnated business models than free trade and innovation?
Further, can you name any other form of business that expects a right to earn money on work done over 100 years ago? I think you'll be hard pressed to find one.

IP based businesses are not in the slightest representative of business as a whole.

I thought it was pretty obvious who I was referring to which is why I didn't bother mentioning them. The person/people going by the name AnarchyNow was/were who I was referring to.

The fact the the Conservatives by definition don't want change, yet their main campaign message is "Time For Change" proves that the name of the party should not be judged, but that it's policies should be. Fortunately, most people understand that.

"thats my reasoned mind is wrong. because he’s not a hacker."

Sorry to burst your bubble, "Guy" old buddy, but being a hacker is not now (nor has it ever been) a prerequisite to comprehend the potential of the network or how true, openended anonymity is eventually a limiter of these functions, not a facilitation of them.

The internet is just another reflection of our real lives and how we live them, another channel on which to (fundamentally) communicate.

Were true anonymity the default path forward IRL, that's the path we'd be on. Human nature is the guide, not "laws". But of course, we are not on that path, not now, not ever. Establishing justice through laws is in our nature.

Accountability has been the cornerstone of a functioning civilization, not the ability to act unfettered (legal or not) in guaranteed anonymousness.

Privacy exists (and should) for those respectful enough not to abuse it, but those who would use it for unlawful behavior will inevitably find it truncated at first, then lost if they continue. That's been the path of civilization and technology for the past 5000 years, and your absurd insistence that only hackers know what's best isn't going to change any of that.

Internet was brought to us by hackers like the guys from MIT like Tim Barnes Lee or Tim O'Reilly who knew from the begining objective identification (ie, the real you) should be protected under the internet for a number os reasons, thats bc every connection under the internet is a identificable connection (IP). But its not a objective identification, its just numbers. But it would be more dangerous not to be anonymous than beeing anonymous. Thats bc these kind of information are critical to agencies like CIA, etc, and to sell ads, sell ppl habits, etc. So anonimity is protecting us against vigilance from those who we not know. Only someone with nazist ideas (like china) would like a non-anonymous internet. thats my reasoned mind is wrong. because he's not a hacker. he's a liberal that came late to the internet. he doesen't understand the very principles of the internet. i helped implementing internet in chile more than 20 yrs ago and i'm glad we still have privacy. when u really understand the internet you realize it has to be like this. sorry 4 the bad english, im tiping fast

"Shame such a good article was ruined by some idiots in comments."

Yes, good start, Graeme, to be calling respondents "idiots" because you happen to infer a form of disrespect in what some have said. You don't even bother to reply to those that you take issue with, or even mention who in particular you're referring to, leaving everyone guessing as to who or what it is that's apparently so upsetting to you.

And you like to believe you might make a good representative for the people of Bury? You're not even off the blocks and you're name calling, getting personal, and showing signs of emotional sensitivity. As it is at this point you don't strike me as someone who would be good to lead the way, you know, someone worth voting for.

Matheus, it doesn't matter what YOU think about the words "pirate" and "piracy", what matters is what the VOTERS think. Go ask the average voter out there what comes to mind when you mention those words. Do a survey, FFS. You have shot yourselves in the foot with that name for many people because of the connotations.

It is my opinion that you're "idiots" (how does me saying that make you feel? - does it endear you towards me? - have I won you over?).
