"Is UK law accessible on the Internet like Finnish law?"

http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts.htm

It's a complete mess. In a typical year there are 40-50 Acts of Parliament (new laws, passing through every stage of Parliament), and over 3000 Statutory Instruments (new rules that can be introduced more quickly, because a previous Act of Parliament says they can.)

Checking through all the Statutory Instruments to see what the law *now* says is like trying to decipher someone else's spaghetti programming code.

I agree that jobs might go lost because of illegal sharing.
that's not a good thing indeed.

yet p2p isn't all about downloading media with copyright. It's also about sharing new experiences, new music and movies and therefore p2p can help in the production of future movies and albums. ( thus creating jobs ? )

Look at the Piratebay Documentary after only 3 days they've got enough money to continue their project.

I can understand why you would want people to get paid for their work.
Yet I don't see mathematicians get paid every time someone uses one of their formula. They get paid to develop the formula but once it's out there ... free to use.

Even worse intellectual copyright than the on music and movies is the one on science...
Research on medecins is being held secret so companies can make more profit

Yet meanwhile people are dying ...
What if all information would be free to use ? what if everybody would have the right to acces all information at all times ?

I think it would be a great step forward for man kind.

Conclusion: Release the information yet don't forget about the people who inventend/Created/discoverd this information and support them.
Go to concerts, donate to projects, go to the movies with your friends, ...

I hope this all makes sense ...
Sorry for my english...

It's a shame that steps such as the DEA are needed, however, with so much content from across the creative industries being shared illegally online, the problem of copyright theft has a real impact on the income of those whose hard work and time goes into creating them.

For the Film and TV industry (who I work with) the perception is often that copyright theft doesn't matter because large companies can afford to lose their profits. However, it's an industry all about reinvestment, so all lost money means less money to make future films, and therefore fewer jobs for those that make them.

the digital economy act is a farce, rushed through

Where is the democracy when the MP's are told what to vote for.

i cant quite put my anger into words but its very dissapointing to know that that this legislation which destroys so many freedoms was just rushed through without being explained to the public or the mp's voiting for it

Freedom is an illusion. It always has been; that's why people have always striven for it. we live under the jackboot in whichever society we live.

Some leather is just softer than others.

None of us can do what we would like...unless is falls within the constraints of what we are allowed.

That is the nature of a society: it developes rules and laws to protect the segments of the whole. The movie industry is just a segment and it's fighting for its right to exist comfortably.

If you don't like their fight then don't take from them. They do what you can't - make oodles of money. If you could you too would fight to protect it. Pirates take. In the past, if they stole, they took a cannon up the arse. Today it's a court order. The only thing that has changed is the penalty.

At least a couple of our ISP's are standing up against this law, they really are doing everything they can to try to stop it.

Sadly BT will just roll over and do what ever they are told.

The rest of them should say, nice law you've past...we're not enforcing it for you.

Not really, they do publish some information but if you want everything you have to buy some very very expensive books...that are copyright!

It sickens me so very very much.

I'm not in UK but wasn't this Mandelson from the non-elected house ? And did the MAFIAA bribe the whole of Labour ? Why would anyone else in Labour help one individual who won't lose his job getting even richer ?
In other words: "What is Labour as a party getting out of this ?". (considering the loss of members and reputation)

@21 Anonymous
Thanks for the info. It confirmes that (negative) laws only get added, never removed.

@33 x
Your list show, assuming all have a third of the votes, that there would be a majority to remove the law if they really wanted. Its already 33,3+18,3 = 51,6 without any support from additional parties.

@41 x
I disagree.
The name Pirate Party works much better than something like "Party Of The Usual". Its like a kickstart to fame (artists use other names all the time). Holding back the PP is that the 3-4 biggest parties and the media together keep bombarding people with fear (FUD) over the same 3-4 issues at every election (which they promise to solve, like before). Looking at Netherlands, PP didn't work because people here are like sheep, selfish and just don't care. Most comments about P2P issues are like: "i only download so didn't do anything wrong, its the uploader that is wrong".(Those will only start to think when there is nothing left to download)

@UHA discussion
I already got lost in the fight at #1-#15 because of the lack of language. Bad spelling and grammar together makes it unreadable (maybe not for the native English speakers). Its very usefull for the MAFIAA when the P2P world starts fighting among themselves.
