Only our internet providers have the data which directly links our IPs to our names and street addresses. (Unless we have made the connection ourselves somewhere else on the net, be careful who you give your name and address too.)

For example, my IP address locates me to Summerville, SC. While my postal address is in Summerville, I am only barely within the border and that puts me about 7.5 miles from the center of Summerville. So if they went around knocking on doors in an outward spiral from the center, it would take them 15 square miles of searching and 1000′s of doors before they found me. Of course, even if they did knock on my door, all they would have is an IP address which they would have no way of knowing was mine or not unless they got it from my internet provider or they did something illegal like tapping into my physical internet connection.

This uMap bs is only entertaining to me but helps nobody. Doesn’t help me do what my main goal is. Doesn’t help me be more secure, actually less. I can look up Ip’s from any pool already without this jsut like the anti P2P agencies do already. Having a map of this makes no difference to anything.

I keep reading about people who pay for seedboxes is the way to go but why pay that amount for what can be revealed as easy (although not easy either way) with a much cheaper VPN service?

In fact it’s easier to court order a seedbox to get user info than it is a VPn because of the many ways you can add step to the court order process which you can’t do with a seedbox.

Bottom line is uMaps has no use to anyone except for temporary novelty and nothing more.
