Jeez people, how effin' stupid can you get?

If you actually read the article, then you would see that uTorrent will still be a 'small lightweight' program.
The plug ins are OPTIONAL. In case you were wondering, OPTIONAL means that you can choose whether or not you want any plug ins. In fact, unless you only have a P4 and 1gb RAM, you won't see a significant speed difference between utorrent 1.8 or Vuze. They both work lightning fast.

I would hardly call the features they are adding huge bloat. It is basically a plugin framework (which from an implementation point of view will have pretty much zero impact on perfect unless you actually use plugins which slow things down/bloat it up) and the ability to view a video while download, all this is doing is prioritising packet order (which is possible now to a degree, it just makes it simpler to do). uTorrent isn't turning into Vuze. Far from it. I am a little concerned development is progressing a little _too_ quickly as these side projects were not the most stable to begin with and the plugin system needs to be solid and secure which takes time. However nobody is forced to upgrade so even if they release uTorrent 3 with a lot of bugs it just means less people will upgrade.

Yeah just recommend old utorrent with security holes in it. We dont really see what you are up to.
To normal folks out there geeze people chill out speed has nothink ot do with plugins unless you are on vpn. All plugins are optional and its just alpha realase it isnt supposed to be stable yet.

Many people think that hiding the ip in uTorrent will fix the problem but it won't. The reason why is that the enemy hires employees to write their own software that will suck all the info they can from you. They don't need uTorrent or any other app but their own private app.

* EU ACTION UPDATE: KEY DEADLINE FOR EU DECLARATION ON ACTA
EXTENDED

Fantastic news! Thanks to the efforts of committed allies
and EFF activists in the EU, more than 300 Members of
European Parliament (MEPs) have signed the Written
Declaration opposing the worst parts of ACTA, helping
extend the deadline for obtaining the remaining 69 MEP
signatures to 9 September. This victory gives EU citizens
much-needed time to urge the European Parliament to take a
stand against ACTA -- the infamously secretive effort to
curtail freedom on the Internet worldwide.

Keep the pressure on! Contact your MEP today:

OMG! Can you people saying "bloatware" actually read? It says these features will be optional, like in, say, Firefox. You would have the choice whether to install these or not. Jeez... TF is not like reading Shakespeare.

Azureus already took a few steps in reducing the RAM & CPU even speeding up the loading. I guess if uT3 is going Vuze's way ill just wait for Azureus 5.0 and dump it's sorry ass. Always been better than the competition... well, until Vuze bought it anyway.

If they would just release the source, a lot of people would make a C++ version because they sure aren't.

Can you say "bloatware"? :D

3.0 works fine so far after 2 weeks of testing (no crashes, usual d/l rate)

just disable uTP, that's the main cause of slow downloads in 2.0+ versions, the rest is just placebo.

These extensions should be optional, not coded into the client....the majority of sharers do NOT need a "WebUI" or even "Video Streaming" - don't get me wrong, I love that idea :) To be able to load up a video torrent and watch it, as it's downloading? That would be great! Currently, only service I know that does this is bitlet.org.....but it's still "flaky" (only works for videos using a certain codec..., for example Steal This Film wouldn't work since it didn't use bitlet-compatible codec).

BUT, I'm curious how "streaming" torrents will affect swarms....to "stream" the client would have to download the torrents "sequentially" (that being, in order, from beginning to end) - I've heard this is actually "bad" for the swarm....since you can have a large swarm of peers, with only the 1st half of a torrent for example....the "primary seed" drops off, and nobody gets anywhere :P

And yea, removing the peer list won't do anything.....these antip2p groups aren't using peer list, they are using netstat to track exactly what connections they "hit"...

#3 - Apps are optional, open source [by design], and available to write and distribute by anyone. BitTorrent will be publishing the internal API so other clients can run apps too. This Monday there is a contest starting to encourage developers to write uTorrent apps.

#5 - Bloatware is not on the development plan at all - on the contrary, the dev team is agonizing over adding 5Kb increments to the client to support apps. small, fast, stable are the goals.

#7, #15 Vuse simply doesn't support the BitTorrent community, writes incompatible protocols, hides the torrents, etc. no comparison.

#10, #12, #21 - remember TFA covers ALPHA releases - so lots of features are under active development, testing and release for feedback. when a crash does happen, opt-in log reporting collects the exact reason for bugs, and they are used for making the client smaller, faster, and more stable.

An extendable platform is great, but these other additions such as Falcon should be built on that extendable framework rather than being built into the software. µTorrent is fantastic because of how light-weight it is, new features shouldn't be included by default.

And by removing the "peer"-tab doesn't protect the users in ANY way!!!

Yes, because VPNs do have a set amount of bandwidth which is shared among x amount of people. So it is natural for downloads/uploads to be slower.

Only evolution I'd like to see is the option to use other nodes as proxies so we can protect filesharers that choose BitTorrent and don't want a VPN.

Not just because it's extra cost but because VPNs have a limited future, evasion partly relies on governments not cooperating (and corporations never being multi-national).

Even if logging doesn't occur on the VPN... don't think that you're completely under the radar... your outbound TCP packets include the VPNs IP address in the packet headers... and recording this information alone doesn't create a massive data footprint (like logging all transaction data would)

If you are effectively a VPN for other nodes and vice versa - and if packets are re-encrypted by each node it becomes nearly impossible to differentiate between your actions and your function as a service provider (providing a secure transfer service for packets of data that you, as carrier or "mere conduit", know absolutely nothing about.)

VPNs are okay for now, but peer-proxying, maybe even peer-proxy-chains.. will probably become necessary in the future.

What they need to do, is make it so the client is tied to an active VPN account/tunnel.
So that when the VPN drops out, Utorrent ceases all traffic immediately.
I am aware of VPNCheck, however it just restarts Utorrent when the connection drops.
Tell me what then is the point of VPNCheck?
Should at least be something to think about, and I am positive that a move like this will secure it as the worlds favourite client.

I am aware of VPNCheck, however it just restarts Utorrent when the connection drops.
Tell me what then is the point of VPNCheck?
Should at least be something to think about, and I am positive that a move like this will secure it as the worlds favourite client.

Anonymous wrote:
"Why do torrent clients have to display ip’s anyway? As long as the torrent downloads there is no reason to know what ip’s the data comes
from."

If you _really_ think anti-copyright companies need the utorrent peers tab (I doubt they even use utorrent) to track people sharing stuff with bittorent, then it just means you just don't know how the internet works.

Removing the peers tab would not make it a bit safer to download stuff. Even with a simple cmd command (netstat) you can easily see the connections your PC is making.
