Funny. In the download-utorrent.com site, if you look closely, you can clearly read the name of the pictured app: BearShare! I have never even seen or used it before, but it isclearly visible. Lol.

HA fairplay to µTorrent for not taking this shit lying down make an example of these wankers so this type of shit never happens again. Im a µTorrent user (because its PURE class) and i feel sorry for the people who got conned, but it goes to show before you jump in at the deep end research things that seem to good to be true, because more often than not they are!!! Finally if there is any people out there that this happens to again post it on loads of pages so that it can be dealt with properly and other people have a chance to avoid it.

anyway thats my rant for the day
thanks for reading.
And so starts the MAFFIAA style scare tactics of legal notices of copyright infringment. This is less to do with protecting users and more to do with protecting investment. Ditch utorrents mpaa backed closed source trash and find an open source alternative, or you may find its you who recieves one of those letters.
What are you talking about?

boohoo uTorrents program was basicly copied and rewritten to show a different name. all they are going to say is "You are assisting in distributing illegal copy written information by allowing this program to run as is instead of adding a security feature to see if they downloader has the right to download the potentally illegally distributed files. Just because pages like mp3downloadhq.com is asking clients to pay for the service leaves them exempt due to the fact that XX money is being sent to the creators of the movies, programs, music, and games owners to make their usage legal.

Now... this could be true... or they could be just making this money and smoking a lot of weed not giving a fuck like most of us do when downloading the latest movie.

Ehhh.... mabby?

FWIW, Azureus just got http://azureus.com in June (and even after that it took a few months to get access to change the DNS server). Previously, it had one of those "download mp3s" sites up which forced you to pay for support in order to get Azureus.

It was very similar to http://www.free-music-share.com/Utorrent and http://free-azureus-downloads.com/index.asp?revid=market50&kbid=1460&sub=ov_azureus . I could go on and on forever. Just search for your favorite P2P client and add the term "2007" to it

It took us several years to rescue azureus.com . Winning legally doesn't really help.. there's a thing that's called an appeal, combined with stretching out the legal process to take forever.

We still get support e-mails from people who think they paid us. Fortunately for most, their problem is already well known and we can fire off a quick solution e-mail. However, for the ones who send us complaint e-mails with no support questions, it's more difficult to explain to them and it really makes me sad everytime I see one.

Sometimes I'm 1/2 tempted to send a Mr Slidey to new installs of old versions of Azureus (like 2.3.0.6) that most likely came from a dishonest site.

(As a disclaimer, I'm only speaking on my behalf and this post is all my personal opinion)

Paul, uTorrent hasn't violated a single law, ever. By your logic, a person who shot a gun store owner shouldn't be charged with attempted murder (at least not by the owner himself) since that would be hypocritical.

Oh come on, you make a product that violates so much IP law and then you try to use the same laws to defend yourself??? ridiculous, you cant pick and choose like this. I don't believe in intellectual property. Period. Don't use lawsuits to shut them down, its hypocracy; just warn people about their slimy ways.

I gotta say a HUGE FUCK YOU to Cohen for this going non OS BULLSHIT.. Great, rely on the efforts of the OS community, to start off with, aquire someone who makes your protocol awesomely easy to use, and close the fucking source!

Is it just me or did the CS announcement seem filled with TOTAL FUCKING BULLSHIT rationalizations? Why can't Cohen have some fucking balls and just admit he's a greedy little fucker.. I hope people will keep the pressure on him to reverse his most stupid decision ever, seriously.. Someone post some contact information, lets get together a campaign..

I meant it in the sense that they are closing the spec under the false premise of helping us getting rid of those malware torrent clients.

The bigger story here, is that the Main 6.0 branch is no longer open source.

http://www.slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36642

BitTorrent is now releasing just an SDK.

I always had a funny feeling about the mainline bit torrent folks.

Software being closed source allows it to do sneaky behavior that open source software cannot? I don't think so.

Anyone with the proper knowledge can unpack, disassemble and look into the code of closed source software. How do you think some of this malicious software comes about? The whole, "if they aint got nuthin to hide then they'll open source it" arguement smacks of ignorance.

There have been several open offers to prove that utorrent speaks with the bad guys, and its gone nowhere fast.

Download wireshark www.wireshark.org, monitor utorrent using a known clean torrent and put up or shut up.

Or pick a rumor that at least has some truth to it, those usually stand up longer.

Free software and open standards are the way forward. Is the editor blind for the fake reason this man gives to restrict things. It's a trojan.

Today is the end of utorrent and mainline.

Intellectual property...pff don't let RMS hear it.

And so starts the MAFFIAA style scare tactics of legal notices of copyright infringment. This is less to do with protecting users and more to do with protecting investment. Ditch utorrents mpaa backed closed source trash and find an open source alternative, or you may find its you who recieves one of those letters.
