uTorrent WebUI For The iPhone

Written by Ernesto on December 01, 2007

The iPhone has no built-in BitTorrent client yet, but you can use it to access uTorrent remotely from anywhere in the world. The iPhone web interface for uTorrent makes it easy to manage your torrents when you’re away from your desktop computer.

uTorrent WebUI For The iPhoneThe iPhone UI for uTorrent can be used to access uTorrent from your iPhone when you’re away from your computer. The interface is optimized for the iPhone and uses the regular uTorrent WebUI. At the moment the iPhone UI lets you pause, resume and add new torrents.

The iPhone UI also shows some status info such as the download/upload speed and the number of seeds and peers connected to the torrent, which should be sufficient to track the progress of your downloads.

The features of the iPhone UI for uTorrent are nowhere near those of the regular WebUI, but it does run smoothly on any iPhone. It requires the uTorrent WebUI to be installed in order to get it running, detailed installation instructions can be found at the iPhone UI homepage.

If you want to run uTorrent on a mobile phone other than the iPhone you could give uTorrent mUI a try. It looks less sleek than the iPhone UI, but the interface will allow you to remotely control your torrents from just about any mobile browser.

Perhaps it’s time for Apple or other iPhone developers come up with a full featured BitTorrent client for the iPhone?

Looks like I’ll be getting an iPhone for Christmas. Man, I’ve got too much shopping to do in such little time.

There should have been full featured BitTorrents clients already implented. I’ll wait for improvements.

Funny how the website is ripped from Sixshootermedia with no credit to them.

Even the guy who “designed” it’s portfolio website is also ripped from six shooter media.

iPhone is really overhyped… And there is no way you can normally use it in most of the countries… LAME.

“Perhaps it’s time for Apple or other iPhone developers come up with a full featured BitTorrent client for the iPhone?”
That would be a fucking horrible idea. It would eat up your data plan and the connection is slow anyway, plus it would kill the batteries.

“The iPhone has no built-in BitTorrent client yet”

Lol… Like if they are ever going to create a bittorrent client with all the piracy going on.

What about iPod Touches?

24 Dec 01, 2007 at 20:58 by chacha

WOW you have a PO$ iPhone. If you can afford mac products why don’t you just buy all you software and movies also?

The surprising thing is not this new software for the phone, but the brain dead people who own the phone know how to use a torrent client. Puts me in my place… *sigh*

25 Dec 01, 2007 at 22:08 by Autechre

I own a iMac, iPhone and Apple TV that are all filled with lovely pirated movies.. We don’t have any money left for legit copies. :-p

uTorrent is PC only? So this excludes us Mac owners. I’m using Azureus but would of been fun to try.

The only privacy you have when using this device is the password you set for the web interface.
AFAIK this is not particularly secure.
It won’t take a lot of cracking by the MPAA etc. to find your password and then find out what you are sharing..

It will work with anything with a web browser and a internet connection.

How can I use this without having utorrent on my PC? I use the WebUI, but I’m on a Mac…

Do VNC Client exist or atleast some way to control a VNC viewer.. would be perfect help for me and I could then throw my pocketwindow away..

A PC and a Macintosh have their differences but fundamentally they are the same. In fact, a Macintosh is just a fancy PC. Now I assume that you are meaning the OS. The real question is if it works with your OS. As far as I can tell utorrent’s WebUI works from all OSes with the proper web browser. (Oh and it does not work with IE.)

uTorrent is fine but torrentflux is far superior for remote administration. Really all you need a computer (mac, linux, window$) running apache mysql php and python. Xampp is a sloppy/lazy way of taking care of that, the only thing “lacking” is the fact that the ui probably will not work on an iphone, But, If you know some php, copy the source to a new dir and edit the css and controller to display only torrent up/down info and new torrent submission field, it appears to be pretty simple and if I actually owned something with a mobile browser I would take the time to modify torrentflux.

35 Dec 03, 2007 at 02:11 by Brandon

This is funny

36 Dec 03, 2007 at 02:20 by dillon

I am very skeptical of this

37 Dec 03, 2007 at 07:04 by Jimmy2e

It works fine, i mean it doenst offer a ton but it lets you remotely check the status of your DL’s and pause them etc, its pretty cool.

38 Dec 03, 2007 at 18:23 by geekhut dot org

Skeptical of torrentflux?
http://www.torrentflux.com/
Someone has already modified torrentflux with some cool ajax effects and NZB support (torrentflux b4rt)

I suggest you give it a try.

Or with a real smartphone, like a HTC WM, you can download torrents *on* the phone, and with something like EVDO get around 2 Mbps/s.

44 Jun 29, 2008 at 21:04 by luserplus

Why not just use your phone to VNC/RDP into your router/PC running utorrent or other client and control it remotely? No extra software needed.

This also works great on Windows Mobile on my Tmobile Wing running Opera 9.5! Thanks!
