The media companies are certainly violating parallel importation provisions in australian law. Remember, the ACCC once tried to take sony to court to force them to remove region encoding from DVDs until the conservatives got into power and forced the ACCC to drop the case.

I pay my $7.50 (or whatever it is) to Netflix every month. Its not bloody piracy. Parallell importation is protected by australian law which forbids media content providers from blocking me importing my media (Which includes digital media). This is my legal right and f*** these people for saying I cant. I never signed a contract with Newscorp saying I have to buy from then, especially when the law says I dont have to.

I mean goddamn it, I cant even get cable where i live.

It is not illegal to import a video from Netflix. It may be illegal for *Netflix* to export the video as they may be violating their license agreement with the rights holder. However the rights holder may be violating competition law.
