Incorrect. A common misconception.That used to be the case some years ago but not now. My current provider (newsleecher) provides 2200 days of retention. (about 6years) This number is still growing so, in a years time it will be up to 2600ish days. Plenty of retention for most, i think.
Some other providers have even longer data retention than newsleecher. Giganews has 2224 days binary retention, 4094 days text retention for example. Most will probably cap their binary retention once they hit 10years (but that’s just me guessing)

1 of the biggest problems Private torrent trackers/sites suffer with is torrents dying very quickly. Within a year or 2 due to the seedboxes they rely on having limited space (this especially applies to Blurays) only public torrents remain alive for any serious amount of time and those are usually kept alive with just a very few, slow seeders. Unless it’s a popular item like game of thrones or star wars etc.

I just did a search for a Bluray that was released less than 2 weeks ago on pirate bay. Juggernaut 1974 (because i had just grabbed the 1080p from usenet) No torrents there with more than 8 seeders on it. 12 days and it’s almost dead already!?! :/

It’s not just the money. I tried to legitimately purchase an HD documentary movie from amazon two days ago. I paid $12.99 for it, then I couldn’t figure out how to download it. I contacted customer service and they told me I could only stream and not actually own it. WTF? I just “bought” it. Gimme my money back then! So they did.

If you only need a VPN for downloading (due to the ’6 strikes’ from your isp) it’s much easier to just switch your downloading habits to Usenet from Torrent protocol. You get to max out your internet connection 100% of the time too. None of that slow seeding nonsense.
Newsleecher has been my tool of choice for many years now. No hassle from my ISP. They haven’t got a clue what i’m downloading.

Free VPN services are generally do not take your anonymity seriouly because they keep your logs and your valuable information can be shared to third parties. Yes, PIA is the one of the cheap VPN and secure VPN service though there are some other top but most cheap vpn services along with PIA.
