Remember that Youtube's Content ID system does not function under the copyright law and DMCA. It's separate. No strikes and no account closures.
If you contest a claim, they can ignore or retract and you win. Or they can simply confirm it and it sticks.
They may change their policies annually too and then suddenly your video is viewable again. Just leave your videos there.
But it's getting more dangerous. Some instead of just affirming their claim, are immediately sending a DMCA notice in reaction and you get a strike. Why? Unnecessary.
If you feel safe from prosecution you can contest it and your video goes right back up unless they win a court case. And your strike is removed.

worked all summer on an album, uploaded it to youtube, they took it down because of a 20 second sample, appearing once, in the course of a 44 minute album with 14 other songs. i appealed fair use, they said no and that i i appeal one more time, i will be asked to court.

i just graduated from college. i made some music, but i can't risk legal troubles over my music, no matter how much i love it. so ridiculous that the copyright protocol was a robot the entire time. you can't argue with track ID robots

Added some popular music to some of my home video's to liven them up and got takedown notices for all of them. Filled in a counter-claim stating it was fair use as my video footage was the main content and I won. Not sure if the labels failed to respond or if they accepted the fair use, as the system didn't tell me.

While my videos are still there with the music, they play silent for some countries like Germany due to licencing.

All the wording and threats of account deletion are intended to frighten people away from counter-claiming so I guess many don't bother.
